FRISCO, Texas - Toyota Stadium will welcome back three former players when FC Dallas hosts Nashville SC on Aug. 12 and 16th.
Dominique Badji, Dax McCarty and Walker Zimmerman used to call the stadium home but will take to the field as an opponent next week as Nashville and Dallas play back-to-back. McCarty and Zimmerman are both former Dallas draft picks who each spent five seasons in Frisco before moving to pastures new, eventually joining Nashville for its debut MLS season. Badji was traded to Nashville last December after scoring eight goals in his season-and-a-half with FCD. Considering all three started both Nashville's games before the break, there's a good chance they feature heavily against Dallas next week.
For Dallas forward Zdenek "Kobra" Ondrasek, Badji's homecoming is particularly special. The two formed a connection on and off the field during their solitary season together and Kobra is looking forward to his friend's return.
"I cannot wait, honestly," he said. "It’s always great to see him and I wish him all the best. Hopefully I score more goals than him, but it’s going to be awesome because I know he’s looking forward to the game like we are. So, I know it will be great."
Badji didn't find the net in his first two Nashville appearances but his knowledge of Dallas' defenders adds an extra wrinkle to next week's matchup.
"He’s a great player," said Dallas defender Bressan, who could very well go toe-to-toe with Badji Wednesday night. "He has a lot of skill, strength and speed, so he’ll give us a lot of complications during the games, but we’re ready. He knows us and we know him, so I think there will be attacks on both sides, but of course we want to win at this time."
