Arturo Rodriguez Voted 2019 USL League One Most Valuable Player

Rodriguez also earned the Young Player of the Year and Assists Champion Awards

FRISCO – USL League One announced today that North Texas Soccer Club midfielder Arturo Rodriguez was voted Most Valuable Player for the inaugural season.

Rodriguez, 20, enjoyed a standout debut campaign which saw him register a league-high 10 assists as well as seven goals—including the title-clinching goal in the USL League One Final against Greenville Triumph SC on Oct. 19 at Toyota Stadium.

“I’m really excited because we worked really hard every day during the season,” Rodriguez said. “So, this award is really a trophy for all of us, so I want to share it with all my teammates.”

Rodriguez adds the MVP award to his growing list of accolades. The midfielder was also voted League One Young Player of the Year, League One Final MVP, Player of the Month for May, and earned the Assists Champion award for the regular season. He also featured in League One's Team of the Week on nine occasions.

“I think Arturo has always had a ton of quality on the ball going forward with his ideas,” North Texas SC head coach Eric Quill said. “He can change a game in a split second, but he also decided to be a real warrior behind the ball. He worked tirelessly in the transitional moments and that’s when his game went to another level. Modern day players have to be two-way players, and he realized that and chose to do it, and he did it really well.”

Rodriguez received 47 percent of the vote to receive the award, with North Texas SC teammate Ronaldo Damus finishing in second place with 12 percent. Nine players in total received votes for the award.

The 2019 USL League One Awards were voted on by team management. Voting was conducted following the conclusion of the 2019 League One regular season.
