North Texas SC vs Chattanooga Red Wolves SC Match Preview | 8.3.19

FRISCO — USL League One leaders North Texas SC (10-2-4, 34 points) will visit fifth place Chattanooga Red Wolves SC (6-5-7, 25 points) at David Stanton Field on Saturday August 3rd at 6 PM CT. The two teams have not met since the first match of the season, which ended in a 3-2 victory for North Texas.

Current Form
North Texas SC comes into this matchup in the midst of a difficult stretch having lost its first game at Toyota Stadium last Friday. The loss, a 4-0 defeat to Greenville Triumph SC, is the largest margin of defeat for North Texas this year. By failing to score in the loss, North Texas has now been held scoreless in three of its last four matches. There is some cause for optimism, however, as North Texas has taken seven points from its last four away games, winning its last match on the road 2-0 against Richmond Kickers.

The Opponent
Chattanooga Red Wolves SC comes into the game in poor form, taking four points from its last five games. Although the point total is low, Chattanooga was unbeaten in nine games until a 2-0 loss to Lansing on Wednesday night. Before the defeat, Chattanooga had four consecutive 1-1 draws that saw it drop in the table. Its most recent loss saw the team drop out of the playoff spots. The Red Wolves have been strong at home recently, unbeaten in its last four with two wins and two draws in that time.

Players to Watch
With defensive midfielder Edwin Cerrillo suspended, Alfusainey Jatta’s performance will be key for North Texas. Jatta is an all action midfielder who can do everything at a high level. He is second in the team in successful tackles and tied for second in interceptions. Jatta is an excellent passer as well, with a passing accuracy of 81% and is second in minutes played by an outfield player.

Chattanooga has struggled to find the killer goal recently, and if it’s going to unlock the North Texas defense it will need a key contribution from Vangjel Zguro. Zguro leads the team with six assists and is tied with Arturo Rodriguez for most in the league. He also leads the team in chances created, with 22. Although an attacking player, he isn’t afraid of the defensive side of the game having won over 50% of his tackles.
