North Texas SC vs Greenville Triumph SC Match Preview | 7.26.19

FRISCO — USL League One leaders North Texas SC (10-2-4, 34 points) will host 7th place Greenville Triumph FC (5-6-5, 20 points) at Toyota Stadium on Friday July 26th at 7 PM CT. Greenville was the first team to shut out North Texas SC, and Eric Quill and co. will be eager to put that draw behind them with a positive performance

Current Form
North Texas SC comes into this matchup in positive form, extending its unbeaten streak to five games. It has won three of its last five, scoring six goals in those three wins. Its last game was against second place South Georgia Tormenta FC which ended in a 0-0 draw. The tie ensured that North Texas maintained its eight-point lead at the top of the table. However, that draw was North Texas’s second consecutive scoreless outing home

The Opponent
Greenville Triumph SC comes into the game in mixed form, taking seven points from its last four games. It earned two impressive wins against Orlando City B, and also put in a strong performance against North Texas at Toyota Stadium. However, despite these results, Greenville was defeated by FC Tucson last time out. Tucson took control in the second half, scoring two unanswered goals.

Players to Watch
While North Texas’ defense has been hot and cold at times this season, it has found consistent form recently. It has earned four clean sheets in five game and the key to that improvement is captain and center back Brecc Evans who started all five of those matches. Since his return from injury, Evans is tied for most consecutive starts and has started the last seven matches at center back. Goalkeeper Carlos Avilez has also been a key performer for an improved defense. The U-20 Mexican international has kept clean sheets in each of his last four starts.

The Triumph will be counting on striker Jake Keegan to help breach the North Texas defense. Keegan leads the Triumph with five goals from 43 shots. Keegan is also tied for third on the team with 18 chances created. His five goals tie him for sixth place in the race for the Golden Boot. With 17 chances created and a team high 38% shooting accuracy, NTSC has to focus on keeping Keegan quiet if it wants to record a positive result on Friday night.
