FRISCO— First place North Texas SC (8-2-3, 30 points) visits tenth place Richmond Kickers (3-8-3, 12 points) at City Stadium in Richmond on Saturday, July 13at 6 PM CT. This is the second meeting between the two clubs this season, with North Texas earning a convincing 3-0 at City Stadium in June.
North Texas dropped points at Toyota Stadium for the very first time after a 0-0 draw with Greenville Triumph on Sunday, July 7. Although they dominated possession, Eric Quill’s team struggled to create clear-cut chances and were kept off the scoresheet for the first time this season. North Texas’ league-leading attack will look to get back on track against last-place Richmond on Saturday.
Richmond has struggled over the first half of the inaugural USL League One season. The Kickers currently sit in last place and are winless in their last seven games dating back to May 11. However, the team is much stronger when playing at home posting a 2-3-2 record at City Stadium versus a 1-5-1 record when traveling.
Players to Watch
North Texas’ player to watch is forward Dante Sealy. The 16-year-old had the best game of his young career last time North Texas visited Richmond. Sealy opened the scoring in the 27th minute with his first professional goal before assisting Ricardo Pepi and David Rodriguez on the second and third goals of the match. Should Sealy get the start on Saturday, he may prove to be a thorn in Richmond’s side once again.
Joe Gallardo is undoubtedly the player to watch for Richmond in this match. The forward is Richmond’s leading scorer with four goals so far this season, twice as many as any other player on the team. Gallardo doesn’t only contribute with goals, the California native also leads the team with 19 chances created. Gallardo’s influence in Richmond’s attack make him the player to watch on Saturday night.
