6.25 Girl's Academy Playoff Recap

Girls' Academy Reinforces FC Dallas Development Focus Through Performances Across Their Teams

FRISCO, Texas- The female youth teams for FC Dallas have been making a statement at the Girls' Academy Playoffs.

The three teams are a combined 5-0-1. The Women’s U-19 team and U-15 team have built their success off clean sheets, seeing no difference between 2 and 5 goals if their opponent can’t score. The U-19s fell short of advancement while playing strong throughout their matches.

The U-19 team struggled in their first game, a 2-2 tie. They showed great spirit when after losing the tie for a 2-1 score, they equalized and tied the game less than 90 seconds later. They found their stride with their next two games and in both 1-0 wins they fought until the last minute, scoring the winning goals in both matches after the 75th minute. For a team that focused on defense, it is important to have an in-form striker, and Sydney Richards’s goals have won FC Dallas U-19 team four points, unfortunately falling short of qualifying for the next round based on goal differential in a tie breaker for qualifying.

The U-15 team has the same defensive solidity and continuity, but have a more clinical side, outscoring their opponents 8-0 in two games en route to the knockout stages. Two different strikers have scored braces and 5 different players have scored at least 1 goal. The ability of Taylor Zdrojewski up top has allowed the midfield to sit a little deeper and the star forward has delivered, with 3 goals in two games along with some stellar hold up play. The U-15s will need a draw or win to progress forward in the playoffs.

While the U-17 team has only played one game, they have found a happy medium with a 2-0 victory. They kept the game tight in the first half and then scored twice right after halftime with 10 minutes in between goals to ruin the halftime team talk of the other team and then end the game as a contest. With qualification on the line for the U-17 team, it is clear development and growth is a focus for the FC Dallas Academy.
