FRISCO - A hectic week for FC Dallas could get even more complicated. After trading away Maxi Urruti and Tesho Akindele during Sunday's half-day trade window, FCD could lose a player to FC Cincinnati in the Expansion Draft on Tuesday. After the completion of the draft, free agency will begin at 2 PM. Thirty-four players who are 28 years old or older with eight MLS service years are available in this year's free agency class.
Here are five names that could make sense for FCD to take a good look at.
1. Osvaldo Alonso - M - Seattle Sounders FC
Alonso has started at least 20 games a season for Seattle since he joined the club in 2009. The defensive midfielder has been a key player for the Sounders for a decade and could provide a veteran presence for a team that is possibly getting a little younger. Alonso has won an MLS Cup and four U.S. Open Cup Championships in his career.
2. Rodney Wallace - M - NYCFC
Wallace did not make that big of an impact in 2018, only totaling one goal and an assist in 18 matches, but he is still only 30 years old and has proven to make things happen near the goal. Wallace has recorded six assists in three of the past five seasons. FCD is going into 2019 without its top two assist leaders from 2018, losing 19 assists from Maxi Urruti and Mauro Diaz.
3. Benny Feilhaber - M - LAFC
Feilhaber's numbers have gone down in the last two years, but he is still a very solid option in the midfield. He recorded three goals and six assists in 34 appearances in 2018. Feilhaber also played a career-high 2,804 minutes last season, so durability should not be a concern.
4. Jordan Harvey - D - LAFC
Harvey has shown he is a starting-caliber left back in the league. Prior to moving to LAFC last season, Harvey was with Vancouver for seven seasons. He has started 279 matches in his MLS career. With the possibility of Marquinhos Pedroso going to FC Cincinnati in the expansion draft, FCD could be on the lookout for a new left back.
5. DaMarcus Beasley - D - Houston Dynamo
FC Dallas could look for some more help on the backline. Kris Reaves' option was declined a few weeks ago and Maynor Figueroa may not be back. The 36-year-old Beasley can provide some help on the left side of the defense. He started 26 games for the Dynamo a year ago, totaling over 2,200 minutes.
