FRISCO - After a full week away from Toyota Soccer Center, FC Dallas will begin its brief offseason training schedule on Thursday, Nov. 8.
Although there are no longer games to prepare for, these sessions help the coaching and technical staff start to work towards 2019.
Last year during offseason trainings, head coach Oscar Pareja used his time to get a better look at some of the younger players who had been in and out of the team with eyes towards 2018. It's also a chance for each player to get more one-on-one coaching and training that can often be difficult to obtain during the course of a 35-week MLS season.
Regardless, Thursday only provides motivation for players who would rather be training for MLS Cup Playoff matches than preparing for 2019.
Per CBA rules, only players with contracts already guaranteed for the 2019 season are allowed to train. While the bulk of FCD's 2018 roster will partake in the seven-session camp, many faces who won't are still in the picture for the club next season. Most of the players who won't be in Frisco have contract options for 2019, which Dallas has until Nov. 26 to exercise. Until then, those not currently under contract cannot train with the pro team.
Players Eligible to Train | |
---|---|
Pablo Aranguiz | Jimmy Maurer |
Francis Atuahene | Santiago Mosquera |
Dominique Badji | Marquinhos Pedroso |

Reggie Cannon | Bryan Reynolds |
Cristian Colman | Thomas Roberts |

Just because a player is under contract, though, does not guarantee he will be in offseason training. For instance, Paxton Pomykal and Brandon Servania with remain with the U.S. U-20s for Concacaf U-20 Championship and Reggie Cannon will join the U.S. Men's National Team during the second week of training for a pair of friendlies in the November International Window. Others could be given time off to rest or recover their bodies after the season at the club's discretion.
