FRISCO - FC Dallas wan't quite able to clinch a home playoff game by virtue of a top four seed last weekend, doing its part against Orlando but not getting the help needed from around the league.
This week, though, Dallas could do one better.
ON THE LINE
With only four MLS games on the docket this weekend, not a whole lot will change in the overall playoff picture, but Dallas could clinch a first-round bye in the 2018 Playoffs.
To do so, FCD would need to win at D.C. United, a team that's red hot in its chase of a playoff spot in the East, and see LAFC lose or draw to the Houston Dynamo on Friday night in California.
Because LAFC is the only other Western Conference team still in contention that is playing this weekend, this is the only scenario in which Dallas could further solidify their playoff picture. If this one does not come to fruition, FCD would set its sights heavily on a slew of mid-week games next week that could clinch either a top-four home game or a top-two bye.
GAMES TO WATCH
- Oct. 12: LAFC vs. Houston Dynamo - The only other game of influence to FC Dallas as it relates to the playoff picture. If Dallas doesn't get the win in DC, any amount of dropped points by LAFC in this one could be key in maintaining a multi-point lead on the Western Conference.
