FRISCO - The 2018 Generation adidas Cup ended in a positive way for the U-17 and U-12 Academy teams. Although the boys missed out in the top playoffs, there were huge positives to take away from the past week of action.
U-17s Finish as Top MLS Club
The U-17 team coached by Luchi Gonzalez showed their quality through and through in the Championship Division Fifth Place bracket with 1-0 win over NYCFC and a 4-1 win over German Bundesliga side, Eintracht Frankfurt.
The U-17 side only finished second in their group due to a head to head tiebreaker vs Pachuca. Both sides finished top of the group with six points but Pachuca advanced on the tiebreaker.
Out of all MLS clubs participating in the 2018 installment of Generation adidas Cup, FC Dallas U-17 Academy finished the highest, taking fifth out of 36 clubs. Furthermore, Forward Johan Gomez finished 2nd in goals scored with 3 for the tournament and also tallied 2 assists. Forward Dante Sealy and midfielder Tanner Tessman also topped the assists chart with two apiece.
U-12s Narrowly Miss Out on Semifinals, Win Three
FC Dallas’ U-12 Academy team put up a record of 3-1-2 over the course of their GA Cup action.
The tournament started with a win for them as they came back to beat Columbus Crew 3-1. The U-12 side finished the first day of action with one win and one loss as they went down to San Jose 1-0.
The next day saw the U-12 Academy face off against Philadelphia Union and Sporting Kansas City in an undefeated day. The first match saw FCD narrowly beat Philadelphia 1-0 and then grind out a 1-1 result versus SKC after a long two days of action.
The FCD boys only missed out on the Semifinals by one point as they finished one point back of SKC, who topped the group with 8 points and went on to win the U-12 GA Cup.
The resulting two matches after the group stages saw FCD lose 2-0 to Seattle Sounders FC and finish the tournament strong with a 1-0 win over New York City FC.
