CCL | Quarterfinal preview, TV info & more

The CONCACAF Champions League returns on Tuesday with the quarterfinals as the final eight teams match up to vie for a spot in the semifinals. Here's everything you need to know before things get going in the first MLS competitive matches of 2017!

Home And Home Returns!

Remember the home and home format in the MLS playoffs where you combine the scores over two legs? Well it's back for CONCACAF Champions League! The lower seed hosts the first leg with the higher seed hosting the second leg. (Click the image to view the tournament bracket)

If the scores are tied after both games, whoever has scored more away goals will advance. If those are also tied, the match will go to 30 minutes of extra time followed by penalty kicks. Just think MLS Playoffs format.

Who's left?

Three MLS teams, three Liga MX teams, a Costa Rican side and a Panamanian side remain among the eight quarterfinalists. Here are the matchups:

#1 Vancouver Whitecaps FC vs #8 New York Red Bulls

Leg One - Wednesday, February 22
Leg Two -  Thursday, March 2

Coming off a 57-point season, the Red Bulls despite being the #8 seed are arguably the favorites in this intra-MLS matchup. Vancouver has added plenty of firepower this offseason headlined by Fredy Montero, but the Red Bulls will certainly fancy their chances with Sacha Kjlestan, Bradley Wright-Phillips and company. The first leg of this one will be at Red Bull Arena with the second leg coming to BC Place.

#4 Pumas vs #5 Tigres

Leg One - Tuesday, February 21
Leg Two - Wednesday, March 1

The only all-Liga MX tie of the round, Pumas and Tigres have combined to win 12 Liga MX championships including five in the last decade. Having won two of the split-season championships in the last two years, Tigres, led by French forward Andre Pierre-Gignac, come into this one as the favorites though they have struggled to open the current Liga MX season.

Pumas is the only Liga MX team FC Dallas has ever played in CCL competition having defeated the Mexican side in Mexico City back in 2011.

#3 Pachuca vs #6 Saprissa

Leg One - Tuesday, February 21
Leg Two - Tuesday, February 28

Four-time winners of the CONCACAF Champions League, Pachuca comes into this tie boasting one of the best teams in the continent led by American defender Omar Gonzalez and Mexican winger Hirving Lozano who has been linked with some of the biggest teams in Europe. Pachuca dramatically won the 2016 Liga MX Clausura. Meanwhile, Saprissa is the most storied club in Costa Rica with 33 Primera Division titles and three CCL titles.

#2 Arabe Unido vs #7 FC Dallas

Leg One - Thursday, February 23
Leg Two - Wednesday, March 1

We know all about this one. We'll have plenty of preview material for this one, but FC Dallas comes into the tie as the LHUSOC and Supporters' Shield Champions while Arabe Unido have won 13 Panamanian titles including five since 2010. This one is gonna be good.
