Today was day two of the 2017 preseason and we actually saw the soccer ball come out in a game! Whoo hoo! Here are the notes and observations from today's business:
Familiar faces return
Matt Hedges, Kellyn Acosta, Coy Craft and Tesho Akindele returned from international duty today. Hedges and Acosta had to return home early due to injury while Akindele missed Canada's friendly win vs Bermuda with a minor knock but said he hopes to be training within the next couple days, nothing major there.
Additionally, all the draftees and international signings who missed the opening session yesterday are all going full bore now.
Energy FC brass in town
Jimmy Nielsen and the staff from our affiliates OKC Energy FC have been in town this week looking at potential players for their 2017 roster. Last year, FC Dallas loaned Colin Bonner, Timo Pitter & Coy Craft to OKC with some solid results.
The morning session wasn't too intense as the boys worked on more small-sided games as well as some plyometrics work. Normal stuff as they ramp things up over time. However...
With the OKC Energy guys in town, the rookies and youngsters held an 8v8 scrimmage against the FC Dallas U-18s for about a half hour on Tuesday afternoon.
LINEUP: Walker Hume, Austin Ledbetter, Dakota Barnathan, Marco Carrizales, Adonijah Reid, Jacori Hayes, Paxton Pomykal, Jesus Ferreira, Wuilito Fernandes
The U-18s held most of the possession early on against a team of players still learning each other's names much less how to play with each other. However, the first teamers responded well later in the match starting to find their feet. The only goal of the match came as Reid received the ball down the right side sending a ball into Fernandes. His shot was saved well, but Ferreira was there crashing the far post to finish the rebound. You can watch much of the match here.
The boys are back at it at 9:00AM on Wednesday.
