MATCH RECAP: FC Dallas 1, Colorado Rapids 1

COMMERCE CITY, Colorado (Saturday, July 23) – A stunning strike from Homegrown midfielder Victor Ulloa earned FC Dallas (12-6-5, 41 points) a valuable 1-1 draw at the Colorado Rapids in a match that was delayed 45 minutes by severe weather in Colorado.

FCD had their first solid chance in the 10th minute as Ryan Hollingshead flicked a ball over the top to Michael Barrios. The Colombian put a good shot on goal from a tight angle but Tim Howard saved it well over the bar.

The home side nearly took the lead in the 21st minute as a Gashi flick found Doyle just outside the box. His shot was cleared off the line by Maynor Figueroa on a fantastic defensive play.

Colorado again came close to the opener in the 33rd minute as Marlon Hairston split the FCD center backs bearing in on goal. Incredibly, Zimmerman was able to close on Hairston and deflect his shot out for a corner on a wonderful defensive play.

The Rapids took the lead in the 44th minute as Hairston won the ball in midfield, rounded Seitz and slotted home for his second goal of the season and second-straight game with a goal.

Atiba Harris nearly put FCD level in the 61st minute. Off a Diaz free kick, the ball fell kindly to the FCD defender, but his shot was right at Howard who held it.

FC Dallas finally found a deserved equalizer in the 82nd minute as Homegrown midfielder Victor Ulloa latched on to a cleared ball and ripped a strike from 30 yards that found the top corner for his first goal of the season and third career goal.

Dallas nearly took a late lead as just a couple minutes later, Michael Barrios had his low shot saved well by Howard.

The hard-earned point secured by FCD keeps Dallas at the top of the Major League Soccer standings, three points ahead of Colorado. FCD returns to MLS play on Sunday, July 31st against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Toyota Stadium.
