The FC Dallas Academy had a tough act to follow on Sunday playing after two FCD MLS wins this week, but they delivered with three Academy Day wins over Texas Rush.
U-18s secure vital 2-0 win
Locked in a three-way battle at the top of the division with Texas Rush and Houston Dynamo, the FC Dallas U-18s knew that if they won their last three matches they would once again be division champs and earn a vital top-eight seed in the USSDA playoffs.
They got off to the best possible start with Giovanni Montesdeoca taking a feed from Paxton Pomykal and flicking past the Texas Rush goalkeeper to put FC Dallas up 1-0 in the 9th minute.
From there, it was a back-and-forth affair with Pomykal and Weston McKennie denied multiple times, but finally FCD found the all-important second goal in the 83rd minute as Devin Vega scored a beautiful individual effort to seal a 2-0 victory.
With the win, combined with a Houston Dynamo loss, FCD needs to win one of their final two matches to secure top spot in the division. They play Sporting Kansas City in Tulsa this weekend and finish off the season at Houston Dynamo on June 4th.
"I’m very proud of the boys for having a good week at training and I think that set the tempo today showed what this program is all about," said U-18 head coach Francisco Molina. "We played a very tough team, a well-coached team and it was back and forth type of game. We had a lot of chances that we need to work on finishing but I think our style of play won out at the end of the day."
U-16s win 13th straight match in 5-0 romp over Texas Rush
The FC Dallas U-16s have already secured top spot in both their division and in the USSDA Playoffs with a 21-2-0 record but they haven't let off the gas.
They secured a 5-0 win over Texas Rush on Sunday with goals from Jose Castro, Jesus Ferreira, Daniel Evans and two from Jommar Reyes.
Four of FCD's five goals came in the first half as the U-16s cruised to victory. They'll have two matches left in the regular season against SKC and Houston before playoffs start.
