With just over a month left in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy regular season, the FC Dallas U-18s and U-16s will travel to Colorado this weekend for a crucial set of games against Real Colorado and Colorado Rush.
The U-18s (14-3-3) will be looking to capitalize on two games in-hand over the Houston Dynamo U-18s (16-2-4), currently in first place in the USSDA Central Conference. Dallas is in 2nd place with 45 points and could pull within a point of their Texas Derby rivals with a solid road performance.
“An out of town trip is always important. We always have tough games against Real Colorado and Colorado Rush,” head coach Francisco Molina said. “The boys are prepared. We’ve been having a great week, we’ll finish it off great as well and we’ll be prepared.”
Molina’s team will be without six U.S. Youth National Team call-ups for their meeting against Real Colorado (6-11-3) on Saturday, but the group could be back in action for Sunday’s tilt against Colorado Rush (8-6-5).
“I think our practices set the tone,” he said. “They know this [next-man up mentality] is part of our culture at FC Dallas. We compete during the week so we can compete on the weekend.”
The U-16s (18-2-0) will look to widen a firm grasp on first place in their Central Conference, sitting 11 points up with five games to play. It’ll be a No. 1 vs. No. 3 matchup on Saturday against the Real Colorado U-16s (12-2-6). Sunday’s foe, Colorado Rush (2-11-6), sit in second-to-last place among U-16 teams.
Both FCD teams, along with the U-14s, will return home on Sunday, May 15th for the annual Academy Day – a triple-header at Toyota Stadium with all three sides facing their counterparts from Texas Rush. Admission is free to the public with kickoff times slated for 12 p.m. (U-18s), 2 p.m. (U-16s) and 4 p.m. (U-14s).
