FRISCO - The FC Dallas U-16s are headed back to the Generation adidas Cup semifinals for the second-straight year.
With one win and one loss so far, FCD needed a win against the Mexico U-17 National Team and some help to advance to the knockout round and they did their part.
Playing with a stiff wind at their backs in the first half, Daniel Evans hit the crossbar with a long-range effort in the 20th minute, but FCD could not find the opening goal.
However, in the second half forward Jesus Ferreira found the go-ahead goal in the 46th minute latching on to a long ball before beating the goalie and slamming a shot into the net. Despite the howling wind, FCD remained resolute in defense and shut out the Mexican side who had a regulation win and shootout win in their first two matches.
Having won their match, eyes turned to the adjacent field where Valencia defeated Toronto FC 6-3 to secure the top spot for FC Dallas in the group with six points. It's the second year in a row FC Dallas has advanced to the semifinals which will be against Universidad de Chile inside Toyota Stadium at 8:15PM on Thursday night and admission is free and open to the public.
