The FC Dallas trio of World Cup qualifiers all wrapped up the second leg of their national team duties this week. Tesho Akindele, Moises Hernandez and Atiba Harris all played major roles with their respective national teams.
Akindele and the Canadian team defeated Dominica 4-0 on Tuesday night with the FC Dallas forward scoring his first goal on the international stage and setting up Tosaint Ricketts with a point-blank finish. Team Canada advanced to the next stage of qualifying with an aggregate score of 6-0 in the two-leg series over Dominica.
Hernandez and Guatemala played a winner-take-all match against Bermuda on Monday. The FCD defender sent a high-arcing pass into the box to set up the lone goal of the match – sending Guatemala to the next round on a 1-0 aggregate score.
Harris and the St. Kitts & Nevis team dropped the second leg of their qualifier against El Salvador, 4-1 – losing the aggregate score 6-3 in the two legs. Harris – the captain of his squad – tried to mount a comeback, scoring in the 69th minute with St. Kitts & Nevis down 3-0, but the smallest sovereign state in the Americas failed to advance to the next round of qualifying.
The draw for the third round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying will be held on July 25, with the field now narrowed to ten teams.
