Jackson makes Colorado pay for bad bounce

FRISCO – Right place, right time.

The ball bounced the right way for FC Dallas on Saturday night and Jackson was there to take advantage of a Colorado blunder to score the winning goal.

“When I saw that the ball was bouncing I didn’t expect the mistake by the goalkeeper, but I was ready for it,” said Jackson via a translator after the match. “I still had to be careful though because it became too easy.”

Colorado’s goalie Steward Ceus misplayed a bouncing ball; Jackson took advantage and walked the ball into the net to make the game 1-0 in the 11th minute. Players prepare for a mistake by the goalie – but it doesn’t happen too often. When a mistake happens there is always the danger of over-thinking the play.

“I remember that David and I work a lot on giving him the option and him giving me the pass. I saw the defender and just took off,” Jackson said.

Opening day can bring extra pressure to perform and early on it seemed that FC Dallas was handling it well. However, FC Dallas was fortunate Jackson scored when he did because the physicality of the Rapids game wore on the club and made for an uglier game all-around according to head coach Schellas Hyndman. But the coach singled out the play of the Brazilian midfielder.

“[Jackson] had a good performance,” said Hyndman. “He caused them problems. You could see the services we got from him. I thought Jackson was a difficult player for them [to handle].”

While it wasn’t the prettiest of victories, both Coach Hyndman and Jackson stated the importance of getting the three points.

“I thought I did well for the first game,” said Jackson. “I still got to get better with the team but I think for the first game I did well.  There is still a lot of work to be done but we showed a lot of will and determination to [get the] win, and the three points is all that matters.”
