Phoenix, Arizona -- FC Dallas returned to the training field at Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix, Arizona today, just 13 days away from its 2011 home opener against the Chicago Fire at Pizza Hut Park.
Nearing the conclusion of a short and arduous off-season that included numerous surgeries, ice storms and new injuries - FC Dallas seems to be peaking at the right time. Yesterday's 7-0 victory over the Arizona Sahuaros was highlighted not by the impressive display of attacking prowess, but by a 45-minute appearance by center back George John.
John's partner at center back, Ugo Ihemelu, is also making daily strides toward returning to the lineup.
During training today, the team enjoyed a recovery session. A long warm-up and jogging session ended with the team performing basic passing and juggling skills in the center circle. The exercise was run by assistant coach Marco Ferruzzi.
After, FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman worked on defensive shaping while the assistant coaches ran the remainder of the team through finishing drills.
FC Dallas is back in action tomorrow when they face Red Bull New York and FC Edmonton in Casa Grande, Ariz. The team returns to Dallas on Tuesday, March 8 and will play host to Chivas USA at Pizza Hut Park on Saturday, March 12. That match is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. CT.
