FCD players look to stay focused in Toronto

FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas held their final practice on Thursday before heading to Toronto, with all eyes focused on remaining focused ahead of a shot at the first MLS title in franchise history.

“I think my biggest job is to keep the players focused,” Hyndman said. “There are great emotions. They have the loved ones. They’re so proud of themselves and sometimes, you think about that 24 hours a day and pretty soon, you’re a nervous wreck. We have to stay focused and not let things interfere with our purpose.”

Hyndman added that although he respects a Colorado Rapids side which has surged into their first MLS Cup since 1997, he’s eager to see his team come out the aggressor on Sunday (7:30 pm CT, ESPN, Galavisión).

“The nature is just playing solid soccer, pressuring, pressing and creating mistakes,” Hyndman said. “Colorado does the exact same thing. Their emotions will be there. We call it emotional intelligence. We don’t ever want to lose our intelligence because we get so emotional. That’s when the cards come and potential silly plays come. It will be an emotional game and there’s a lot at stake.”

The jury is still out, meanwhile, on FCD’s two injured stars: forward Milton Rodríguez and right back Heath Pearce.

“We’re still evaluating Milton to see if he’s even going to be in the top 18,” Hyndman said. “He and Heath both are working awfully hard trying to impress us that they’re ready. We have to make that decision closer to game day."
