Coaching Requirements

License Requirements

In line with the guidelines set forth in the FC Dallas Way, FC Dallas Youth coaches will be required to attain a certain level of competency through the US Soccer Coaching Schools Program. The minimum coaching requirements will be:

1. FC Dallas Junior Coaches (U7-U10)
2. FC Dallas Select Coaches (U11-U19)
3. FC Dallas Premier Coaches (Top teams U7-U19)

1. FC Dallas Junior Coaches must hold a State“D” license or the National Youth License (NYL) in order to work with FC Dallas Youth Junior teams (U7-U10). Coaches currently working for the club who have a “E” or lesser license will have 12 months to attain the “D”license. Coaches not acquiring the “D”license or the National Youth License within the 12 month grace period must get written permission from the Director of Coaching in order to remain with the club. In addition, a plan and timeline for attaining the “D” license or the National Youth License must be agreed upon with the Director of Coaching.

2. FC Dallas Select Coaches must attain a National “C” license in order to work with FC Dallas Youth Select teams (U11-U19). Coaches currently working for the club who have a “D” or lesser license will have 18 months to attain the “C” license. Coaches not acquiring the “C” license within the 18 month grace period must get written permission from the Director of Coaching in order to remain with the club. In addition, a plan and timeline for attaining the “C” license must be agreed upon with the Director of Coaching.

3. FC Dallas Premier Coaches must hold a National “B” license in order to work with FC Dallas Youth Premier teams (Elite U11-U19 teams) or the National Youth License (NYL) in order to work with FC Dallas Junior Premier teams (Elite U7-U10). Coaches currently working for the club who have a “C” or lesser license will have 12 months to attain the “B” license or the NYL. Coaches not acquiring the “B” license or the NYL within the 12 month grace period must get written permission from the Director of Coaching in order to remain with the club. In addition, a plan and timeline for attaining the “B” license or the NYL must be agreed upon with the Director of Coaching.

Of course, these are minimum requirements and FC Dallas Youth will encourage all staff members to acquire the highest license possible and to apply the knowledge gained through course studies to improve the everyday training environment within our teams.
