FC Dallas Get a Kick out of Reading Submission

FC Dallas is proud to bring you the Get a Kick out of Reading program. The goal of this program is to support literacy programs in schools and libraries and to teach children the joy of reading while improving their reading skills.

Through this program, students in Elementary and Middle school will be encouraged to read a minimum of 20 minutes per day, for a six week period. To kick-off the reading program, FC Dallas will conduct one (1) Get a Kick out of Reading assembly at a participating school. In order for your school to be eligible for this assembly, your entire school must sign up to participate in the program and you must register during the Early Registration dates. The selected school will be randomly chosen later that week, and the assembly will be held at the end of January on a mutually agreed upon date.

Teachers have the freedom to select the six week period in which they wish to conduct the reading program; however, it must be completed by the end of April in order for your school's minutes to count. All final logs and forms must be returned to the FC Dallas Get a Kick out of Reading Program Coordinator by the first week of May.

The reading program is divided into three (3) levels with a minimum goal of 300 minutes to reach:

Level 1: Goal - 300 minutes read
Level 2: Goal - 650 minutes read
Level 3: Goal - 1,000 minutes read

The student's reading minutes will be tracked on a reading log by the parents and/or teachers. The reading log must be signed by either the teacher or parent in order for the child to receive credit for the minutes read. Students can also check out FC Dallas players' favorite books as inspiration to pick up a new book and get a kick out of reading.

Students will receive prizes based on the total number of minutes read upon the program's completion.

Monday, November 16, 2009 - Registration Opens
Monday, January 4, 2010 - Early Registration Ends*
Monday, January 18, 2010 - Reading Program Officially Kicks Off
Friday, March 12, 2010 - Registration Ends
Friday, April 30, 2010 - Reading Program Ends
Friday, May 7, 2010 - All Reading Logs and Materials Due to FC Dallas
