FRISCO, TX (Monday, July 29) – FC Dallas Reserves drew(1-4-1, 4 points), 1-1, with Red Bull New York’s Reserves(2-4-1, 7 points) today at FC Dallas Stadium Complex Field 1.
FC Dallas midfielder Danny Garcia opened the scoring in the 69th minute on assists from Ramon Nunez and Kellyn Acosta. New York answered in the 86th minute on a goal scored by Bradley Wright-Phillips. Wright-Phillips’ goal was assisted by Arun Basuljevic.
The FC Dallas Reserves’ starting 11 featured four current academy players, who helped the home side hold the Red Bulls to a scoreless first half.
New York had the first quality scoring chance on the morning. Dallas-native Andre Akpan found space down the right side before smashing one off the post in the 15th minute. Just three minutes later, Wright-Phillips beat the offside trap and rounded goalkeeper Chris Seitz before slotting, what looked like a sure goal towards the net, but FC Dallas guest player Diogo De Almeida sprawled to clear the shot off the line.
FC Dallas Reserves’ best chance of the half came from Garcia in the 28th minute. The recent Homegrown signing dispossessed Kosuke Kimura of the ball before firing a hard right-footed shot that Ryan Meara pushed clear of the right post.
Red Bull New York came roaring out of halftime and nearly found the back of the net in the 57th minute, when goalkeeper Ryan Meara’s long ball freed Ruben Bover down the left side. Seitz came off his line to cut down on Bover’s angle and make a solid save before covering the loose ball.
Dallas rebounded and nearly scored in the 66th minute, when Acosta zipped a ball through the area. Forwards Eric Hassli and Bradlee Baladez were in position, but just missed getting on the end of the pass.
After a few minutes of sustained pressure, Dallas broke through in the 69th minute. Once again it was Acosta who started the attack, recovering a misplaced cross on the right flank and sliding a ball inside to Nunez. The Honduran midfielder beat his defender before knocking a lateral pass to Garcia, who hit a left-footed shot that beat Meara low to his left side.
New York answered in the 86th minute when Basuljevic knocked a through ball to Wright-Phillips. The forward received the pass inside the area while holding off his defender and took a shot that was immediately deflected by Acosta. The redirection of the shot left Seitz unable to make a save on the play and the ball ended up in the low, left corner of the net.

Meara made two saves in stoppage-time to earn a point on the road for New York. The first came in the second minute of stoppage when Je-Vaughn Watson streaked down the left side and found Garcia at the top of the box. His shot was saved well by Meara, and Hassli was unable to clean up the rebound.
In the fourth minute of extra time, Dallas earned a corner kick that was played to the back post by Nunez. Victor Ulloa headed the ball back across the goalmouth, where London Woodberry got off a half-volley that cracked off the left post. Jonathan Top nearly tucked away the loose ball, but once again Meara was there to push the forward’s shot off the crossbar on the final play of the match.
