FRISCO – Blas Perez returned to action Tuesday during FC Dallas training.
It’s a major step forward for the player who hasn’t played for FC Dallas since May 26 at Real Salt Lake.
Perez has been out due to an injury sustained in June during a World Cup qualifier for Panama and was also away from the team for a period of time after the death of his father in July.
“He really has been gone for so long,” coach Schellas Hyndman said of Perez. “You can see he’s really excited … He looked pretty good.”
Perez could potentially travel to Los Angeles for Sunday’s nationally televised match against the Galaxy (6 p.m. CT on NBC Sports Network), but Hyndman says it’s too early in the week to make any decision.
“We were so happy we didn’t take him last week to Vancouver and play him on turf or Real Salt Lake which was a pretty physical game,” Hyndman said. “He had another week where he could stay down here and train and build his confidence.”
Luna loaned to San Antonio
FC Dallas announced Monday it is loaning forward Ruben Luna to the NASL’s San Antonio Scorpions for the remainder of the 2012 season.
It’s a big opportunity for the Homegrown player.
“The big thing for Ruben is games – meaningful games,” Hyndman said. “What we’re wanting to do is put him into a competitive environment where they are competing for a championship.”
Technical Director Fernando Clavijo echoed Hyndman, saying consistent playing time should help Luna develop.
“Ruben Luna is someone who we have not given opportunity enough to play,” Clavijo said. “I think it was clear [his playing time] was on and off.”
FC Dallas has the ability to recall Luna at any time if needed.
