This week FC Dallas 96 Boys Premier team player Antonio Aguilar was honored by US Youth Soccer when he was named to the Under-15 Boys National Championships Best 11. The Best 11 recognizes the best eleven players in each gender age group, irrespective of their position on the field, as voted by coaches of the participating teams in that age group.
Aguilar and his teammates on the 96 Premier squad finished third in the nation at the 2011 US Youth Soccer National Championships in Phoenix, Arizona last month.
The Premier team, coached by FC Dallas College Director Scott Dymond, opened the tournament against the Michigan Jaguars. Dallas put six shots on goal while Michigan only managed three, but two of the three shots resulted in goals and the Jaguars won 2-1. The Premier team’s lone goal came from Grant Norris in the 41st minute.
Dallas next played the Chicago Fire Juniors to a 0-0 tie. The Fire kept the Premier team to three shots on goal, but none of Chicago’s 11 shots on goal found the back of the Dallas net. The Fire went on to win the National Championship at the U-15 level.
The Premier team wrapped up their week at Nationals against the San Diego Surf, winning 2-1 to clinch third place in the tournament.
The Surf scored early off a goal from Brian Iloski in the fourth minute, but the Premier team responded when Paulo Sanchez scored in the 17th minute. Dallas’ Aguilar scored the game winner in the 80th minute to seal the victory and his team’s spot as third in the nation.
The third-place finish added to the team’s accolades in 2011. Earlier this year the Premier team won the Dallas Cup U-15 Championship in April by defeating Solar SC 2-0, with both goals coming from Aguilar.
