FRISCO, Texas — On a hot Texas night, FC Dallas extended their unbeaten streak to nine games after defeating the New England Revolution, 1-0, on a second-half goal from Marvin Chavez on Saturday at Pizza Hut Park.
From the opening whistle, Schellas Hyndman’s side outplayed Steve Nicol’s Revolution, maintaining 65 percent of the possession in the first half and peppering the Revs goal with four shots in the first 45 minutes. The Revs seemed content to play defensively and work to stop Dallas rather than go for the three points themselves.
FCD forward Fabian Castillo caused all kinds of trouble for the Revolution defense, particularly centerback Ryan Cochrane, dribbling at defenders with speed. But it was not the 18-year-old Colombian who found the back of the net for the home side.
In the 68th minute, Castillo found Chavez along the right side of the field and the Honduran international did the rest. Deep near the byline, he spun defender A.J. Soares with a speedy step over and cut in toward the Revs’ near post. With everyone expecting Chavez to angle a cross back into the center, he instead slotted a low shot at the near post and past goalkeeper Matt Reis—who was cheating toward the middle.

The goal was Chavez’s first of the year and fourth career goal for Dallas.
The score line may have been worse for the Revolution if not for the performance of Reis, who, despite being burned for the goal, made eight saves.
Missing from the Revolution lineup was US international Benny Feilhaber, who suffered a sprained ankle a week ago, while Dallas was without right back Jackson, who was in Brazil to marry his longtime girlfriend.
Dallas, who put together a 19-game unbeaten streak last season, have not lost since April 17 at Portland. With the win, they solidify their second-place position in the West, now just five points behind the league-leading LA Galaxy.
For the Revolution, the result marks their third straight loss as the team remains mired in the middle of the Eastern Conference.
Dallas play again at Pizza Hut Park next Sunday against Sporting Kansas City.
The Revolution return to action next Friday when they visit the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena.
