FC Dallas was forced to take training indoors today as Texas was smothered with torrential rains from Tropical Depression Hermine. The team utilized nearby Fieldhouse USA to retain their fitness levels and get a few touches on the ball.
Six on Six
Following warm ups, FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman split the squad into four teams to play six on six in Fieldhouse USA’s indoor soccer facilities. Captain Daniel Hernandez double-shifted to play on both the blue and yellow team.
|Jeff Cunningham||Ruben Luna||Dax McCarty||Marvin Chavez|
|Bryan Leyva||Peri Marosevic||Heath Pearce||Jason Yeisley|
|Victor Ulloa||Brek Shea||Moises Hernandez||Eric Alexander|
|David Ferreira||Jair Benitez||Andrew Wiedeman||Kyle Davies|
|Milton Rodriguez||Eric Avila||Marco Feruzzi||Daniel Hernandez|
|Daniel Hernandez||Edson Edward||Atiba Harris||Bruno Guarda|
The blue team, led by Bryan Leyva and David Ferreira, resembled a hockey team on a power play. They kept possession of the ball for long stretches in their game with the orange team. Daniel Hernandez took control of the point, acting as a safety valve. Leyva controlled the left flank and Ferreira the right. Two players that rarely see time on the pitch together, Jeff Cunningham and Milton Rodriguez, worked well with one another in the offensive zone.
Play of the Day
Marvin Chavez had the play of the day for the yellow team. Facing the white team, the Honduran midfielder took possession of the ball in his own defensive third and accelerated through midfield with a defender pasted to his back. Chavez outran the defender, side-stepped another and slid a shot under a sprawling Dario Sala for a one goal lead.
Scramble in Front of Goal
In a goalmouth scramble, Jair Benitez and Ruben Luna combined for back-to-back heel flicks in front of goalkeeper Kevin Hartman. Luna’s final touch chipped Hartman, but the shot bounced off the boards above the goal and back into play. Needing a winner, FC Dallas goalkeeper coach Drew Keeshan sent the match into overtime. Moises Hernandez eventually buried a shot near the left post to end the match.
Hyndman on Practicing Indoors
"Being off yesterday, it was important just to get out here and get some movement. I hope we’re not forced inside again tomorrow. We have some work to do on our team structure."
Hyndman on FC Dallas’ win against Toronto FC
"It was quite remarkable that we got a good result against Toronto without our two center backs. Moving forward we have three options in that position: we can dress me up. We can suit up [FC Dallas Assistant Coach John] Ellinger…(laughs). But on a serious note, Daniel Hernandez played center back during his time in Mexico. With that option we wouldn’t get the pure speed in the position but we would gain his direction. Second, we could put Jackson in there again. He is really playing above his experience level with our team. Third, we have Kyle Davies. He did a great job for us against Houston. The problem is that he hasn’t played in some time."
Hyndman on Dax McCarty
"It’s good to see him out here. At the same time, this indoor session doesn’t require a lot of long-range shooting or passing. Those are two things that have been bothering him."
