The last six weeks have been a whirlwind for FC Dallas forward Cobi Span.

From Sweden to MLS without a known destination, Span landed with FC Dallas via weighted lottery, but that was just the beginning. A week in Frisco, two weeks across the globe in Abu Dhabi and now a week in Florida have challenged Span as he works to establish himself in the FCD attack, but true to his laidback personality, he's taking it all in stride.

"It’s going well. Abu Dhabi was a good trip for everyone. We got some games in and I did well. Personally, I did well," said Span. "I felt like I’ve been reaching my stride and getting better every day. The come back to Dallas was good and then straight to Florida. So it’s still a lot of traveling, but it’s going well so far."

Span saw time in both preseason games in Abu Dhabi playing on the right wing and for the 21-year-old who celebrates a birthday on Sunday, the move to Dallas has been nothing but positive.

"I like everything about the team, you know. I like the way Oscar coaches. He always likes to have attacking players and I think that fits me and my style of play well," said Span. "It’s a very professional environment and I think I fit right in perfectly with my style of play and the way I am as a person. I think it’s a good fit for me."

With three games left in the preseason, the New York-native certainly has his work cut out for him as he returns to the IMG Academy in Bradenton where he spent time as a member of the US U-17 National Team. Span is one of a number of young attackers looking to push themselves above the pack to earn a spot on the March 8th gameday roster, and for Span, the preseason competition is all part of being a professional.

"That’s the way it is. That’s the way football is and that’s the way a lot of the sports are. That’s the professional lifestyle. When you step on the field, it’s a competition every day for your position," said Span. "You have to be able to handle it both on and off the field."

Span's next chance to impress will come Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 PM when FC Dallas battles USF in Bradenton, Florida.
