FC Dallas 2013 College Round-Up: Volume 3
The NCAA season is now more than a month old and we're into the all-important conference schedule. Here's your bi-weekly college round-up featuring the best of FCD alumni from the last two weeks:
WATCH: Coleman scores vs ND
Jack Coleman - Junior Midfielder - Duke
The midfielder scored his first goal of the season in Duke's 3-1 loss to Notre Dame. A second-half cross sent in by Coleman went all the way through the box and found the back of the net. Duke sits at 4-4-4 on the season with the chance of an NCAA tournament berth if they pick up their play over the next few weeks. The Blue Devils host NC State on Friday.
Allie Tripp - Junior Defender - Arkansas
Tripp has started every game this year for the Razorbacks and she scored her first ever goal at Arkansas in their 2-1 loss to Ole Miss. Tripp's goal broke a scoreless tie in the 61st minute, but the Rebels came back to score the win. After a hot start, the Razorbacks have cooled off recently but still have a shot in the SEC.
Bobby Edet - Freshman Forward - Furman
Edet and Furman are one of the stories of the NCAA season as the Paladins are currently 9-1-2 with their only loss to Akron. The Paladins scored their biggest win of the season on Tuesday over highly-ranked Clemson with Edet assisting on the first goal and last Friday, Edet led Furman to a big 2-0 win over Davidson scoring two goals in less than one minute late in the first half! Edet leads Furman with six goals in 12 games this season.
Aaron Guillen - Sophomore Midfielder - Florida Gulf Coast
Guillen, who we featured earlier in the summer, has exceled at the back for FGCU as the Eagles begin to turn their 2013 season around. After a rough start, the Eagles have won four in a row including three shutouts and the center back leads all players in minutes played this season.
Fernando Laverde - Freshman Midfielder - Central Florida
In his freshman year, Laverde has played the second-most minutes for Central Florida starting all 11 games and he scored his first assist as an NCAA player in their 2-1 win over Cincinnati.
Kailee Hervey – Freshman forward Louisiana Tech
Hervey scored her fourth goal of the season on Friday, October 4 in a 2-0 win over Marshall. In just her freshman year, Hervey is second on the team in goals with four and also has an assist. Right in the thick of the CUSA season, Hervey and La. Tech are 7-7-1 with five games left before tournament time.
Mikey Ambrose - Sophomore Defender - Maryland
Ambrose has followed up an All-Freshman 2012 with an extremely solid 2013 for the Maryland Terrapins. Ambrose grabbed his third assist of the season on September 27 against Pittsburgh in a 2-0 win. Sasho Cirovski's men sit at 5-2-4 overall, unbeaten in seven games.
Natalie Huggins - Junior Forward - Baylor
Huggins assisted teammate Karlee Summey in a goal in the 49th minute in a 2-0 win over Boise State on September 22 and she scored her fourth goal of the season in a 2-1 loss to Texas last Friday, October 11, in Austin.
