FC Dallas Reserves (1-6-1, 4 points) lost, 3-1, to the Columbus Crew Reserves (5-5-1, 16 points) this morning at the Crew’s Training Facility in Obetz, Ohio.

Columbus’ Ryan Finley recorded a hat trick before Kenny Cooper spoiled the shutout with a goal for FC Dallas in the 77th minute.

Finley gave the Crew an early lead in the sixth minute when he converted a one-time shot near post on a cross from Konrad Warzycha. Ramon Nunez nearly leveled the match 20 minutes later, but his free kick from just outside of the right side of the box smacked off the crossbar, keeping the score 1-0 going into the half.

The Crew Reserves were stalled on three occasions by FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz in the 38th, 50th and 53rd minutes, but Finley finally broke through on another setup by Warzycha in the 54th minute. Warzycha’s shot off of the post landed right in front of the rookie forward, who would tap in his second goal of the day.

Finley would add his third on an unassisted goal in the 69th minute.

FC Dallas’ goal came in the 77th minute, and was initially set up by Homegrown forward Jonathan Top. The Fort Worth-native had his shot blocked by the Crew’s substitute goalkeeper Brad Stuver before MLS veteran Kenny Cooper slotted home the loose ball to put the visitors on the scoreboard.

FC Dallas Reserves are in action again next Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 9 a.m. CT in New York against the Red Bull Reserves.
