Century Club Q&A with David Ferreira

El Torito talks family, Texas and his new look hairstyle

Continuing our season-long celebration of FC Dallas players joining the Century Club (100 starts for FCD), we caught up with David Ferreira who, against Seattle, became the 15th player in franchise history to achieve the honor. Ferreira, the team captain, most notably won the 2010 MLS Volkswagen MVP and has 22 goals and 36 assists in his FCD career.

What's your favorite memory with FC Dallas?

I can’t pick just one, I have two favorites. Winning the MVP award in 2010 and making the MLS Cup Final.

What’s your favorite thing about living in Texas?

Definitely the people in Texas. They’re all very friendly and welcoming.

We’ve got to ask about the blonde hair. What was the motivation behind that?

There wasn’t really a huge motivation, I just wanted to try it to see how it looked and have a change of image. It’s been a very successful change and it’s made me more famous these last few days, it’s funny how it turned out. My wife wasn’t very happy with the change and didn’t accept it at first but she came around.

What’s been the toughest thing to adjust to about living in Texas?

I think maybe off the field is probably the language

You’ve been here for five years now, are your kids becoming more American or Colombian?

My oldest is now wearing cowboy boots! They’re probably 50-50.

What do you think about your nickname “El Torito”?

Everywhere I’ve been they’ve had a different nickname for me. I like it.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Dallas?

My house. Restaurante Ferreira.

What’s your favorite away city in MLS?

New York

Who’s the toughest opponent in the league?

At this moment it’s probably Portland. Also, there’s other teams improving a lot like Colorado

Do you plan on staying here after your playing days are done?

I think I’m definitely staying here in Texas, my kids have been raised here in school and will build a life of their own here. With that being said, I’ll never abandon Colombia, I’ll always be going back and forth.

What are your hobbies outside of soccer?

Really it’s just soccer and my family. Those two are my life and my passion. If I was reborn, I’d stick to being a soccer player.

Favorite TV shows?

I watch a few shows on Telemundo, mostly novelas. I like El Señor de los Cielos.
