Peter Luccin arrives in Texas
FRISCO – New FC Dallas midfielder Peter Luccin participated in his first full training session Monday morning.
The 33-year-old arrives in Frisco after stops with various clubs in France’s Ligue 1 and Spain’s La Liga.
Luccin said his playing time overseas will be an asset for FC Dallas.
“I played in Europe for some of the bigger teams,” Luccin said through a translator after Monday’s training session. “I can bring new things to the team and bring my experience to this level of play.”
Head coach Schellas Hyndman said it was good to have Luccin participating in preseason camp and the midfielder has a little bit of catching up to do fitness-wise.
Luccin was training on his own while waiting for the completion of paperwork to come to the United States.
The Frenchman trained with FC Dallas after the end of the 2012 season in November. It was during that time Hyndman decided Luccin would be a good fit for FCD in 2013.
“I think he’ll be our holding midfielder – probably a similar role that Daniel Hernandez has played for us,” Hyndman said, adding that there’s a possibility he could play just one holding/defensive midfielder if Luccin can handle the duties.
“This won’t be determined today, it will be determined once the level of fitness comes up and matches the demands of the position,” Hyndman said.
Luccin said he makes good touches and he’s not afraid to make contact going for the ball.
He said it’s a good opportunity to come to the United States and join a team that plays the style of soccer FC Dallas does.
So far, the biggest impression made on Luccin is the quality of his new teammates.
“It’s a good group,” Luccin said. “The most important thing is having a good group and good competition on the field.”
