Academy Update: Teams return from U.S.S.D.A. Winter Showcase

Teams earn one win in six matches at Winter Showcase

FRISCO – The FC Dallas Academy teams returned from Florida last week after competing in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase from November 30 through December 4. The sides produced just a single win out of six matches collectively as the U-18s went 1-1-1 and the U-16s went 0-2-1. The Pre Academy teams also returned to action last weekend, but failed to score a goal as the sides posted two scoreless ties and a 1-0 loss.

FC Dallas U-18s

The U-18s suffered some unfortunate luck to come away with a 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls on the first day of the Showcase. Homegrown midfielder Kellyn Acosta gave FCD a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute, but New York benefitted from an own goal in the second half to end the match in a tie.

The next day the U-18s took on D.C. United with several starters missing to take part in the Academy Select Game taking place on the same day. FCD suffered a 1-0 loss on the day, with United's Kennedy O'Shea scoring the lone goal in the 62nd minute.

The U-18s final match took place on Monday, December 3 against Columbus Crew Soccer Academy Wolves. After a scoreless first half, forward Bobby Edet gave FCD the lead in the 56th minute and midfielder Abdul Yassine scored the insurance goal in the 79th to seal the 2-0 victory.

The FC Dallas U-18s remain in second place in the Frontier Division with a record of 6-3-1.

FC Dallas U-16s

After starting the season with seven straight wins, the U-16s mirrored the results of the U-18s in many ways at the Winter Showcase, but for the lack of offense. The side also tied New York's U-16s in its first game, but in a match that ended 0-0.

The U-16s also lost to D.C. United in their second match, with D.C.'s Joshua Bender scoring the game-winner in the 31st minute. Also like the U-18s, the side was missing several starters to the Academy Select Game that same day.

And the result from the match between the FC Dallas U-16s and the Columbus Crew Soccer Academy Wolves also ended 2-0, but in favor of Columbus. Crew midfielder Ken Krolicki opened the scoring in the 12th minute and defender Jimmy Fiscus secured the second goal in the 49th.

The results dropped the U-16s to second in the Frontier Division with a record of 7-2-1.
