Academy Update: Teams steamroll competition over the weekend

Edet scores winner for U-18s in shutout

FRISCO, Texas – The FC Dallas Academy and Pre Academy teams played a collective total of eight games at the Complex at FC Dallas Stadium last weekend, earning seven wins and one draw while outscoring their opponents by a 16-3 margin. The Academy teams both posted shutout wins and the three Pre Academy teams played two games each on the weekend to earn 16 points collectively.

FC Dallas U-18s: 1
Texas Rush: 0

The U-18s returned to the win column with a 1-0 shutout of Texas Rush. Forward Bobby Edet scored the game-winner for FC Dallas in the 11th minute, his ninth goal of the season. Homegrown goalkeeper Richard Sanchez picked up the shutout for the U-18s to earn the three points.

The win improved the squads overall record to 23-4-3 for a Development Academy-leading 72 points.

FC Dallas U-16s: 2
Texas Rush: 0

The U-16s also bounced back from a loss in their last match with a 2-0 win over Texas Rush. The match remained scoreless until the 43rd minute, when Aaron Meyer scored his sixth goal of the season for FC Dallas. Forward Erick Chapa added on the insurance mark ten minutes later to bring his season total to five goals.

FC Dallas remains in fourth place in the Texas Division with 41 points, two points behind second-place Solar Chelsea SC. The win did, however, help FCD climb in the Wild Card standings, from 12th place to 10th to increase the side's hopes of making the playoffs next month.

FC Dallas U-15s: 2
Texas Rush: 1

The U-15s started their weekend slate with a 2-1 win over Texas Rush. Santiago Agudelo scored a brace in the match to raise his team-leading season goal total to nine.

FC Dallas U-15s: 1
Texans SC Houston: 0

The squad followed up that victory with a 1-0 shutout over Texans SC Houston. The lone goal in that match was scored by Jose Benitez, who scored his first goal of the season in the win. The results extended the U-15s' undefeated streak to eight games. The side hasn't lost a match since February.

FC Dallas U-14s: 0
Texas Rush: 0

The U-14s played to a second straight 0-0 draw on Saturday, this time against Texas Rush. The scoreless result was the team's 14th shutout of the season.

FC Dallas U-14s: 2
Texans SC Houston: 0

The next day the U-14s pitched their third straight shutout while picking up a 2-0 win over Texans SC Houston. Bernie ZuaZua scored his third goal of the season in the game and Richard Tapia scored his eighth of the year to seal the victory for FC Dallas, who remain undefeated through 21 games this season.

FC Dallas U-13s: 3
Texas Rush: 1

Entering the weekend on a three-game losing streak, the U-13s got off the schneid with a 3-1 win over Texas Rush. Alejandro Zendejas scored his fifth goal in the win, while Orlando Rodriguez and Bryce Johnson each scored their second goals of the season to push FC Dallas to victory.

FC Dallas U-13s: 5
Texans SC Houston: 1

The U-13s kept up their form the next day, as did Zendejas, as he scored his first hat trick of the season in a 5-1 win over Texans SC Houston. The trifecta raised Zendejas' team-leading season goal total to eight. Duncan James kept pace by also scoring his eighth of the season with a tally in the win and Brandon Pike struck for his fifth of the year to round out the scoring for FC Dallas.

The FC Dallas Academy and Pre Academy teams will travel to Houston this weekend to take on the Dynamo this Saturday, one week before the first teams of the two clubs face each other in the Texas Derby at BBVA Compass Stadium (Sat., June 16, 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2). It will be the final match of the regular season for both the U-18s and the U-16s. The Pre Academy teams, on the other hand, will all play a second set of games in Houston on Sunday, June 10 when they'll take on the Texas Rush again.
