Academy Update: Rare shutouts as end of season approaches
FRISCO, Texas – The FC Dallas Academy and Pre Academy teams were back in action last weekend, as all five teams traveled to Houston to take on the Texas Rush. The U-18s and U-16s were kept scoreless in the same weekend for just the second time this season, while the Pre Academy teams went undefeated in their weekend road matchups.
FC Dallas U-18s: 0
Texas Rush: 4
The U-18s dropped a 4-0 result to the Rush. The home team got ahead early in the first half after Javier Vazquez scored in the ninth minute and Carlos Mendoza scored in the 15th. After the break the Rush doubled their two-goal advantage when Bubacarr Jobe scored in the 45th and 47th minutes, respectively. It marked the first time FC Dallas has been shut out in divisional play this season.
The loss dropped FCD's overall record to 21-3-3, but after clinching first place in the Texas Division the previous week the team remains 16 points ahead of second place Solar Chelsea SC.
FC Dallas U-16s: 0
Texas Rush: 0
The U-16s were also shut out on the weekend, but were able to salvage a point out of their match as they played the Rush to a scoreless draw. However, that point wasn't enough to keep FC Dallas in second place in their division, as they were leapfrogged by both Solar Chelsea SC and Texans SC Houston and now sit in fourth place in the Texas Division with an overall record of 12-5-10.
FC Dallas U-15s: 3
Texas Rush: 1
The U-15s posted their fourth straight win last weekend, beating the Rush 3-1. Santiago Agudelo contributed his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the victory, while James Olmos doubled his season goal total with a brace in the match to lead FC Dallas to victory.
FC Dallas U-14s: 2
Texas Rush: 2
The U-14 Pre Academy team remained undefeated through their 16th match in Texas Division play after earning a 2-2 draw with the Rush. FCD's goals came from Richard Tapia and Christian Ramirez. It was Tapia's seventh goal of the season while Ramirez has now scored a total of 20 goals with the Pre Academy this year.
FC Dallas U-13s: 4
Texas Rush: 2
The U-13s also brought home a positive result from Houston, doubling up on the Rush for a 4-2 win. Alejandro Zendejas had a brace in the match, and Alex Gerondale and James Niece scored a goal each in the win. Zendejas and Niece each now have four goals on the season while Gerondale's goal was his sixth of the campaign. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the U-13s.
Up Next: at Dallas Texans
The FC Dallas Academy and Pre Academy teams will all be playing this weekend as they visit the Dallas Texans. It will be the first meeting between the clubs since January 14 when the Texans handed the U-18s their first loss of the campaign.
