FC Dallas inks contracts with Scott Sealy, Alex Lee
FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas announced today the signing of MLS veteran forward Scott Sealy and 2012 Supplemental Draft pick Alex Lee. Per league and team policy, terms of the deals will not be disclosed.
Sealy is a veteran of six MLS seasons that has scored 31 goals and nine assists in 128 appearances. After being traded to San Jose from Sporting Kansas City midway through the 2008 season, Sealy racked up three goals and four assists in 40 appearances for the Earthquakes. The 5’10” forward spent the 2009 season playing with Maccabi Tel Aviv FC of the Israeli Premier League. He scored one goal in 14 appearances with the club that season.
“Scott is an experienced and successful forward,” said FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman. “He knows the league well and works very hard. He came in here and had a great preseason, scoring a bunch of goals. We are really glad to be able to add him to our strike force heading into this season.”
After leaving Wake Forest University, Sealy became the 11th overall pick in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft for Sporting Kansas City. He spent three seasons in Kansas City, where he made 88 appearances and scored 28 goals. Sealy is also a member of the Trinidad and Tobago National Team, for which he has scored two goals in 25 appearances.
Also an 11th overall selection, FC Dallas took Lee with its first pick in the 2012 MLS Supplement Draft. Lee captained Maryland to a 14-4-3 season in 2011. The 5’10” native of Rockville, Md. helped lead the Terps to a 1.05 goals against average last season. Lee picked up a game-winning assist in a 2-1 overtime victory against Rutgers on Oct. 4 and started all but three contests for Maryland in 2011. He finished his college career with four assists in 65 appearances.
“We were really surprised Alex was still available with the 11th pick,” said Hyndman. “He has really lived up to our expectations after seeing him during his senior season at Maryland. He reminds me a lot of Zach Loyd. He is versatile. He can play as either a center back of or right back. Alex is very strong defensively and his abilities getting forward and joining the attack improve every day.”
