1996
Name: Brandon
Pollard College: Virginia
Position:
Defender Chosen: 3rd overall in the 1st
round
Pollard was the Burn’s first-ever selection out of
college. He played only ten games his
rookie season, missing time with the Burn as a member of the U.S. soccer team at the 1996 Summer
Olympics. He became a regular starter
for the Dallas
defense though, making 114 appearances between 1996 and 2000. Pollard sustained the injury that would
eventually end his career during a 1999 playoff match against the Chicago Fire
in which his fibula was shattered by a hard tackle from Dema Kovalenko. Pollard and his wife Susan now work as
beekeepers all over the Dallas/Ft.
Worth area.
1997
Name: Temoc
Suarez College: North Carolina
Position: Forward Chosen: 6th overall in the 1st round
Suarez scored three goals for the Burn in 56 appearances
through the 1999 season. After being
released by Dallas
he played for a number of USL and indoor clubs before retiring from his playing
career in 2004. In October of 2010
Suarez was named boys varsity coach at Pinewood
Preparatory School in Summerville, South
Carolina.
1998
Name: Matt Jordan College: Clemson
Position:
Goalkeeper Chosen: 10th overall in the 1st round
Jordan
only started one game in goal his rookie season, but took over between the
posts from 1999 to 2002. Over 114 starts
for the Burn he registered a1.51 goals against average. After leaving MLS, Jordan
played two seasons with Odense BK in Denmark. He returned to MLS in 2004 and saw little
playing time in stints with Columbus and Colorado until signing
with the Montreal Impact of the USL in 2007 where he still plays today.
1999
Name: Bobby Rhine College: Connecticut
Position: Forward Chosen: 6th overall in the 1st round
Rhine spent ten seasons as a player in Dallas, scoring 23 goals over 212 games in
that time. A fan-favorite in Dallas, during his final game in 2008, team captain Duilio
Davino insisted Rhine wear the captain’s
armband. After retiring in 2008 Rhine joined the FC Dallas front office as Manager of
Community Development. He has also been
the television broadcast voice of FC Dallas for the last two seasons.
2000
Name: Aleksey
Korol College: Indiana
Position: Forward Chosen: 5th overall in the 1st round
Korol scored seven goals in 39 appearances for the Dallas
Burn during the 2000 and 2001 seasons.
In 2002 he was traded to the Chicago Fire where he could never establish
himself due to knee injuries. Over the
next five years Korol played for various USL and MISL teams. In 2009 the Ukrainian immigrant returned to
his alma mater to serve as assistant coach for the Indiana University Hoosiers.
2001
Name: Eddie
Johnson College: --
Position: Forward Chosen: 19th overall in the 2nd round
Johnson scored 23 goals for Dallas between 2001 and 2006. In 2006 he was traded to Kansas
City where he played for two years before making the move to Europe. Johnson
has been with Fulham FC of the EPL since 2008 and has gone out on loan to Cardiff City and Aris Thessaloniki in that
time. The Florida native has also scored 12 goals in
42 appearances for the USMNT since 2004.
Johnson was part of the preliminary 30-man roster prior to the 2010 FIFA
World Cup before being cut from the final 23 who went to South Africa.
2002
Name: Carl Bussey College: SMU
Position:
Midfielder Chosen: 9th overall in the 1st
round
Bussey scored one goal in nine appearances for the Burn in
2002, but he didn’t make it back onto the field for Dallas in 2003. In 2004 Bussey founded the Dallas-based
Mustangs FC youth soccer club. Today
Bussey is still the director of the club and he coaches some of the 17 teams
ranging from U-5 to U-14.
2003
Name: Shavar
Thomas College: Connecticut
Position:
Defender Chosen: 10th overall in the 1st
round
Thomas notched one goal in the 15 games that he played for Dallas in the 2003
season. After his rookie year Thomas was
traded to Kansas City and has since been traded to the LA Galaxy, Chivas USA,
and the Philadelphia Union before being traded back to Kansas City in
2010. Since 1999 Thomas has made 35
appearances for the Jamaican National Team and he captained the squad to
Caribbean Championship in 2010.
2004
Name: Clarence
Goodson College: Maryland
Position:
Defender Chosen: 7th overall in the 1st
round
Goodson spent four seasons with Dallas
before leaving to play in Europe. In 2008 he joined Norwegian team IK Start
where he has since scored 10 goals in 63 appearances. Goodson recently signed a three-year contract
with Brøndby IF
of the Danish Superliga that will start this
year. Goodson has scored two goals in 17
appearances with the USMNT since 2008.
He traveled to South
Africa with the team for the 2010 FIFA World
Cup, but didn’t get on the field in any of the teams four games.
2005
Name: Drew Moor College: Indiana
Position:
Defender Chosen: 6th overall in the 1st
round
Moor was a fan-favorite in Dallas
before he was traded to Colorado
in the middle of the 2009 season. The Dallas native scored
eight goals in 123 appearances for FCD.
Moor is still a member of the Rapids’ defense corps, and helped the club
win the 2010 MLS Cup. He has made five
appearances for the USMNT since 2007.
2006
Name: Dax McCarty College: North Carolina
Position:
Midfielder Chosen: 6th overall in the 1st
round
McCarty scored five goals in 93 appearances over five
seasons in the FC Dallas midfield, culminating in helping the club reach its
first-ever MLS Cup appearance in 2010.
Following the 2010 post-season McCarty was selected first overall in the
Expansion Draft by the Portland Timbers.
He was immediately traded to D.C. United for Rodney Wallace and
allocation money.
2007
Name: Anthony
Wallace College: South Florida
Position:
Defender Chosen: 9th overall in the 1st
round
Wallace made 15 appearances for FC Dallas from 2007 to
2010. Unable to establish himself as a
role-player in the Dallas system, Wallace was
traded to the Colorado
midway through 2010 where he started every remaining game for the Rapids’
defense to their MLS Cup victory. The
Portland Timbers chose the Brooklyn native seventh overall in the 2010
Expansion Draft, but was immediately traded back to Colorado for allocation money.
2008
Name: Brek Shea College: --
Position:
Midfielder Chosen: 2nd overall in the 1st
round
In three seasons with FC Dallas Shea has scored five goals
in 46 appearances, with all five coming in his breakout 2010 season. Shea was a regular starter for FCD in 2010
and contributed two assists in the side’s 2010 playoff run. Last year also saw the Texas
native get his first USMNT call-up and he earned his first cap in an October
friendly against Colombia. He is the first player born in the 1990’s to
earn a US Cap.
Name: Eric Avila College: UC-Santa Barbara
Position:
Midfielder Chosen: 19th overall in the 2nd
round
Another noteworthy draft for Dallas
from 2008, Avila
has scored two goals in 50 appearances with the club. Although he hasn’t established himself as a
starter, Avila
has often been a valuable spark off the bench for FCD. In Dallas’
first game of the 2010 playoffs he scored the game-winning goal in the 88th
minute at Pizza Hut Park.
2009
Name: George John College: Washington
Position:
Defender Chosen: 14th overall in the 1st
round
John has made 41 appearances for FC Dallas in his first two
seasons in MLS. He was a defensive
staple in FCD’s 2010 backfield, starting all 25 games that he played in. He also scored a goal in Dallas’s second-round playoff match against
the LA Galaxy.
2010
Name: Zach Loyd College: North Carolina
Position:
Defender Chosen: 5th overall in the 1st
round
Loyd had a solid rookie season for FCD in 2010, starting 19
of the 24 regular-season matches he saw action in. He also played in all four of Dallas’ playoff games,
with one start. His hard work in 2010
earned him a call into the first USMNT camp of the new year, leading up to a
friendly against Chile
on January 22.
Name: Eric
Alexander College: Indiana
Position:
Midfielder Chosen: 44th overall in the 3rd
round
Dallas
struck rookie gold twice in 2010, with Alexander starting 12 of the 17
regular-season matches he played in. He
played in two of FCD’s playoff games and also got called into the USMNT camp
this month.
