New York Red Bulls sign Mexican National Team captain Rafa Marquez

The New York Red Bulls announced the signing of the club’s third designated player today, and it was a big one.  Mexican National Team captain Rafael Marquez is officially a New York Red Bull.

Marquez has played for FC Barcelona for the last seven seasons of his career.  He helped the Catalan club win the UEFA Champions League title in 2006 and 2009.  The 2006 championship made Marquez the first Mexican player to ever win the UEFA Champions League.

Marquez has made 94 appearances for Mexico internationally and has been the captain of the team since the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

The signing makes Marquez another addition to the list of international superstars who will be playing on the pitch at Pizza Hut Park this summer.
