It was a tightly contested match, with the Californian side edging the home team by a score of 1-0 to take control of Group A.

With both teams coming off shutout victories the previous day, FC Dallas and Chivas USA started the morning at a high pace, with each team producing quality scoring chances.

In the 16th minute, Dallas midfielder Jose Salas tested Chivas goalkeeper Alexis Garcia after forward Santiago Salazar used some crafty footwork to get around three Chivas defenders and slot a pass to Salas.

Three minutes later it was FCD ‘keeper Joseph D’Angelo Flores’ turn to preserve the scoreless game as he made a diving save to his right to deny a chance by Chivas forward Edgar Gonzalez.

Chivas got another look at goal in the 34th minute by Hugo Gutierez. Flores was up to the task again, as he punched the ball right back to the feet of Gutierez, who skied his second attempt high over the crossbar.

After the half FC Dallas got back-to-back chances of their own in the 47th minute when Salazar’s attempt from the right side of the box caught the near post. FCD pounced on the rebound, but a well-placed Chivas defender cleared the point-blank attempt off the line.

The Chivas USA offense rewarded its defensive efforts in the 58th minute when Joshua Perez fired a shot past FCD substitute ‘keeper Sawyer Williams to tally the eventual game-winner.

FC Dallas battled furiously to tie the game in the final minutes. In the 65th minute, Sergio Lara’s shot was blocked by the goalkeeper; in the 67th James Olmos sent a header on frame that was headed out from in front of the goal by the defense; and the ‘keeper made another save in the final minute of regulation on Juan Amaro to ensure the 1-0 victory and take the top spot in Group A.

The U-15s will return to action at 8:30 a.m. Saturday for their final group stage game when they take on D.C. United. D.C. have lost both of their games this week, getting shutout 2-0 by both Chivas USA and the Columbus Crew.
