Generation adidas Cup coming to PHP next week

FRISCO, Texas – Pizza Hut Park has been a pretty popular place over the last four months. Besides hosting a dozen FC Dallas home games since the MLS season kicked off in March, the facility has also seen a pair of Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches; served as a training site for the Mexican and Venezuelan National Teams; and hosted youth events like Dallas Cup XXXII, Sueno MLS 2011, the USSDA Playoffs and FCD’s annual Youth tryouts, just to name a few. Next week Pizza Hut Park will host its next major event when the 2011 Generation adidas Cup comes to Frisco.

Formerly known as the SUM Cup, the Generation adidas Cup will bring together U-17 squads from 16 MLS Development Academies to compete in a tournament that will allow each team to see how they stack up against other player development systems from around the league.

The FC Dallas U-17 squad will be made up of a combination of players from this season’s U-16 team that competed in U.S. Soccer’s Development Academy and a few younger players. FCD's preliminary U-17 roster features three players who recently competed with the U.S. at the U-17 World Cup in Mexico in Kellyn Acosta, Alessandro Mion and Alfred Koroma, not to mention Mexico's World Cup champion goalkeeper, Richard Sanchez. They will start the tournament in Group B along with the Seattle Sounders, the Philadelphia Union and Sporting Kansas City.

The tournament will see each team advance to the semifinal and final round to ultimately be ranked 1-16. Since there is no elimination, each team will play a total of five games.

FCD's preliminary U-15 roster also has some National Team talent in the form of Martin Salas and Christian Ramirez, who are both in the United State's U-15 talent pool. The team will face the Columbus Crew, Chivas USA and D.C. United in Group A before learning their final opponent.

Similarly to the U-17 tournament, each U-15 team will advance to the final round to ultimately be ranked 1-8. Each U-15 team will play a total of four games at the event.
