FRISCO – On Saturday, FC Dallas Homegrown Bradlee Baladez found himself in the starting lineup in the club’s scrimmage against the University of Memphis.

As a rookie, Baladez knows he needs to take advantage of every opportunity he gets and in the 66th minute, opportunity knocked.

Baladez answered – scoring the first goal of the match in what would be a 2-1 win for FC Dallas.

“It was kind of a long ball - from the left to the right,” said Baladez. “I was fortunate enough to be on the back side and [Michel] played it back and I just tapped it in.”

Baladez said he felt a little rusty early on, but as the match progressed he felt better and more comfortable. He also says that he expects to get into the flow of the game sooner as he gets more playing time under his belt.

“I thought he had a better second half,” said head coach Schellas Hyndman. “I thought he was a little bit more mobile. I thought he got open a little bit more on the flanks.”

As a whole, the team seemed more comfortable in the second half. As players felt more relaxed their communication seemingly improved.

“It’s harder to communicate with new people,” said Baladez. “But the team will come together and we are going to fight and [we will] be good.”

Being a rookie and a Homegrown adds a little more pressure, but Baladez is taking it in stride.

“I’m just learning, you know,” he said.  “Obviously I want to score more goals, I had some chances – I missed one and got called offside on another one. But the goals will come. I’m only a rookie. So I’m just going to learn from these guys. It’s a learning experience and I’m just excited to be here.”
