FC Dallas star Brek Shea is the cover boy for the latest Eastbay catalog. He's featured on Eastbay's website with photos, video and a story worth checking out. Here's an excerpt:

It wasn't long before soccer became the perfect stage for Brek's creative play. He watched as many soccer games as possible, not for a specific team or player, but to soak in as much as he could. Apparently he's a quick learner because Brek made the country's U-17 team after his freshman year of high school. He was drafted by FC Dallas in 2008 and has been playing there ever since. "Just being a pro at that age was the coolest thing for me."

Brek has more than a few goals under his belt, but it's the nature of his contributions that are drawing more attention than his numbers. He's creative and smooth, with a hint of drama. He's great at getting a perfect touch on the ball. He's got the speed and the stride to dribble through defenders with some of the best in the business. His on-field play is unexpected, sometimes unrefined and nothing short of artistry.

But if that inventiveness ended when he walked off the pitch, what fun would that be? So Brek keeps it flowing. When Eastbay walked into Brek's home, we were instantly met with a scene that tells us Brek is creating more than he has room for. From wall to wall, he has hung his original art. Some pieces are leaning up against the wall because they don't have a place yet. His outdoor studio has canvas piled upon canvas, just waiting for the next wave of inspiration.

MLSSoccer.com's countdown to First Kick highlighted FCD's Brek Shea today. Read the full entry here.

The 21-year-old Brek’s upside is still very clear and present.

His experience with the US national team in the past year has given him more purpose and discipline. His training stint with Arsenal has opened his eyes even further to the breadth of quality in the game. And the return of David Ferreira to the FCD lineup gives him a visionary teammate who can pick out his wide runs.

In short, Year 5 of the Brek Era promises to be the best yet. If the trajectory holds, could we see him score enough goals to match his jersey number: 20?

NBC Sports Group announced on Monday that Kyle Martino will join play-by-play voice Arlo White as the lead analyst for the network’s coverage of Major League Soccer.

White and Martino will make their debut on Sunday, March 11, at 2 p.m. CT on the NBC Sports Network when FC Dallas hosts the New York Red Bulls at FC Dallas Stadium. The network will broadcast 41 games during the 2012 season, including three on NBC, followed by five MLS Playoff matches.

“I am very excited to be joining a company with such a rich sports history,” Martino said in a statement. “To be a part of that tradition by covering Major League Soccer is a tremendous honor. I look forward to being a part of the NBC Sports Group team.”

Martino will not call the game in a conventional sense. Instead, he will occupy a role “Between the Benches” during matches with White remaining in the broadcast booth. From this vantage point, Martino is expected to provide unique field level insight in addition to game analysis. NBC currently employs a similar technique during their hockey coverage, using an “Inside the Glass” analyst.

MLSSoccer.com's Simon Borg graded all the MLS squads who participated in last week's Disney Pro Soccer Classic. Here's what he said about FCD:

FC DALLAS (2-1-1, 6 GF / 4 GA): David Ferreira continues to be the story this preseason. After 90 surprising minutes against BK Häcken, there was the setback of missing the final two matches of the tournament due to a sore Achilles.

They became the FC Dallas of old with Ferreira in the lineup, but the new guys ain’t too shabby. Hernán Pertúz is a rock in the back, Blas Pérez is FCD’s best forward of the Schellas Hyndman era and Carlos Rodríguez adds quality on the left.

But the most intriguing aspect of the tournament for FCD is Brek Shea’s move to forward against Houston. It should have longer legs than the left back experiment of last year.

GRADE: B+

FC Dallas faces rival Houston Dynamo in the final match of the preseason for both squads. The Texas teams meet at 5 p.m. CT in the third-place match of the Disney Pro Soccer Classic, in Orlando, Fla.

This is the third straight year the teams have met in Orlando. Houston won 2-1 in 2010 in a third place game. FCD won in penalty kicks last year to win the tournament title.

The match will be streamed live on ESPN3.com. We will provide the usual in-match updates via Twitter and have post-match coverage on FCDallas.com

MLS First Kick presented by Dick's Sporting Goods is fast approaching - just a little more than one week away.

FC Dallas fans will notice some changes which will get them into FC Dallas Stadium early and have a good time.

New for all 2012 FC Dallas Games is Lamar’s Tailgate Party.

It starts 90 minutes before first kick (so 12:30 p.m. for March 11) on the North Concourse and features BBQ, street tacos and other food. Even better - different food and drink specials prior to every game.

The fun continues on the Budweiser Beer Garden with live music, pool ball (think soccer and billiards mixed together on a giant pool table), Bud promo girls, prizes, and more food and drink specials extended through the whole game.

The culmination of the tailgate party is the return of the scarfing ceremony of the Lamar Hunt statue. Each game will have a special guest doing the scarfing.

Game starts at 2 p.m. Tickets are going fast and are on sale at fcdallas.com and will be televised on NBC Sports Network.

For the New York Red Bulls game there will be vuvuzelas to the first 5,000 fans.

Check back here for more information next week.

FC Dallas will take on a familiar opponent in their third and final group match of the Disney Pro Soccer Classic this evening. Dallas faced off against Toronto four times last season between the MLS regular season and the CCL group stage - twice in Frisco and twice at BMO Field.

FC Dallas won each of the first three matches by a score of 1-0, but FCD fans will remember the fourth meeting all too well. Toronto came down to Texas and handed Dallas a 3-0 loss that put TFC through to the quarterfinal stage of the 2011-12 CCL and eliminated FCD from the tournament.

Tonight will be the first meeting since that match, and once again, advancement is at stake. The winner of tonight's match advances to the final to face the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night. In the event of a draw, FCD would still advance to the tournament championship on goal differential.

The match kicks off at 5 p.m. CT and will be streamed on MLSsoccer.com's live Channel 2. Or, you could make your way down to Trinity Hall at Mockingbird Station where they'll be having a watching party in conjunction with the release of the 2012 FC Dallas kit. It'll be your first chance to buy the new kit, and what better way to break it in than cheering FCD on to the Disney Pro Soccer Classic final for the second straight year?
