MLSSoccer.com's countdown to First Kick highlighted FCD's Brek Shea today. Read the full entry here.
The 21-year-old Brek’s upside is still very clear and present.
His experience with the US national team in the past year has given him more purpose and discipline. His training stint with Arsenal has opened his eyes even further to the breadth of quality in the game. And the return of David Ferreira to the FCD lineup gives him a visionary teammate who can pick out his wide runs.
In short, Year 5 of the Brek Era promises to be the best yet. If the trajectory holds, could we see him score enough goals to match his jersey number: 20?
MLSSoccer.com chatted with FCD coach Schellas Hyndman about the status of George John. John's original loan term to West Ham United is set to end soon. Bottom line - no update, yet, on John's status with FCD for 2012.
FC Dallas midfielder Ricardo Villar recently welcomed a new member to his family into the world - son Lucas. It's the first child for Villar and his wife. Congratulations!
Brek Shea's artistic skills are no secret to FC Dallas fans. But he's never done something quite like this - custom painting two skateboards. You could win them at the silent auction at FCD's Cocktails and Cleats event on March 8.
Invited season ticket holders showed up in force for Saturday's Meet the Team event. It was a great chance for those fans to get autographs and pictures with this year's team. Brek Shea and Blas Perez were, not surprisingly, popular with the fans.
FC Dallas and U.S. Men’s National team midfielder Brek Shea is giving away one of his original paintings and his autographed game-worn boots from First Kick on March 11.
The winner must be present at the March 11th game vs. Red Bull New York here at FC Dallas Stadium where the winner will be announced at halftime. Shea will meet the prize winner in the WinStar River Club following the match to hand over the artwork and his boots.
Shea is running the contest through his Left Foot Studio website and to be eligible fans to follow him and the studio on Twitter to enter. The official entry form is here. Contest entrants will also receive a special ticket offer to opening day.
FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman discussed the status of David Ferreira in a story for Soccer America.
“He’ll see a foot-ankle specialist on Wednesday and we’re hoping that helps him," said Hyndman of the 2010 league MVP who played just six games before Jonathan Leathers crunched him with a tackle. “One of the problems he’s running into is the mind; he’s still worried about how strong he is, or if he’ll be reinjured, or is he at his best. These are things you don’t know how good you are or how much you’ve recovered until somebody kicks you and you go, ‘That wasn’t so bad.’ But right now he’s not prepared to get kicked. We hope he’ll walk out of that appointment Wednesday feeling positive about himself and ready to go. Right now he’s going through training sessions but he’s not been in full-contact yet.”
Ex-FC Dallas player and current Portland Timbers midfielder Eric Alexander threw down the most unlikely of challenges in a video posted on the Timbers' website. He wants to play FCD goalkeeper Kevin Hartman and some FCD teammates in Halo. We're still trying to decide if this is funny or just odd.
The folks at MLSSoccer.com are counting down to the start of the season with a daily feature. FC Dallas' goalkeeper Kevin Hartman is featured first.
Hartman is the league’s all-time leader in victories (171), clean sheets (106) and saves (1,376). More recently, he has also been the leader of one of MLS’ stingiest defenses in Dallas during the past two seasons.
More relevant to the Countdown, Hartman has accumulated 30 career starts against the New York franchise that began as the MetroStars before claiming the Red Bulls moniker that they boast today.
Ex-FC Dallas & newly acquired New York Red Bulls player Kenny Cooper got to catch up with Brek Shea before Tuesday's scrimmage in Cancun.
