MLS Regular Season
After a brilliant game against Portland which saw him record seven saves, it's no surprise that Raul Fernandez is nominated for Mlssoccer.com's Save of the Week. Fernandez's save in the 39th minute earned the nod. Voting is open until Thursday at 11:59 pm pacific time. Fernandez was also named the #1 performer of the week in the Top 3 Performers for week 16.
Further recognition rolled in for Raul who was also named to MLS' Team of the Week, alongside Zach Loyd, who had a solid defensive effort against Portland in addition to a goal against Houston in Open Cup action. Here's what Nicholas Rosano had to say about the duo:
GK: Raúl Fernández (FC Dallas) –Dallas may have lost in Portland, dropping a 1-0 result, but it would have been much worse had the Peruvian 'keeper not made a string of ridiculous saves worthy of any highlight reel.
DF: Zach Loyd (FC Dallas) – Just ahead of Fernández, the right back did the best out of any of Dallas' defenders on the night on both sides of the ball, frustrating Portland out wide for long stretches of the game and getting forward to good effect.
David Ferreira got some attention for his performance on Saturday, as well. The midfielder came in at number 16 on the weekly Castrol Index Top 20, his second time making the list this season.

This week’s power rankings results were not too positive for FC Dallas following a loss to Portland on the road. All but one of the weekly rankings moved the team down at least one spot, but the team stil remains in everyone's top five. FC Dallas has a chance to bounce back with a home match Saturday against Sporting KC.
Soccer America moved Portland to the top, dropping FC Dallas one spot to number three.
Even by the stratospheric standards of Jeld-Wen Field, the roars and celebrations that saluted Nagbe’s strike in the 53rd minute skewed off the scale. Rival keepers Donovan Ricketts and Raul Fernandez each had seven saves and FCD, even without Panama striker Blas Perez, could well have departed with a tie. This game showcased the league nicely to an ESPN audience that had just seen Brazil thump Japan in the Confederations Cup.
Yahoo Sports left FC Dallas at number two and had some encouraging words:
They're atop the overall league standings and they won't always be without their key front man. Dallas are going to be just fine.
FC Dallas dropped just one spot to #3 according to mlssoccer.com:
Lost, and were outclassed. But thanks to another spectacular performance from Raúl Fernández, they had a legit chance at a point up until the final whistle. Very impressive, especially considering they were without all three of their target forwards.
ESPN FC dropped FCD two spots to number five after the loss:
Injury, international duty and a family emergency for Kenny Cooper all conspired to rob FC Dallas of any striking threat, yet Schellas Hyndman's side still made a game of it in Portland only to fall 1-0. Raul Fernandez put on a goalkeeping clinic.
ProSoccerTalk switched FC Dallas and Portland, moving FCD to number two:.
The team has three top-shelf strikers, but circumstance conspired to keep all three off the field for most of the 1-0 loss to Portland.
FC Dallas may have lost a heartbreaker in Portland on Saturday, but Raul Fernandez had another amazing game in the goal with seven saves. As a result, the nominations and honors are already pouring in for Fernandez who leads MLS goalkeepers in saves this season.
It's only Monday, but Fernandez has already been nominated for MLSsoccer.com's Top 3 Performers of the Week and El Latino de la Jornada for Week 16. Voting for Top 3 closes tonight at 7:00 and El Latino de la Jornada voting will remain open until the end of the day Thursday. Make sure to vote Raul!

After a weekend off, there wasn't any movement in this week's power rankings for FC Dallas, meaning that the team remains in the top three in every major list for another week. Dallas has their work cut out for them this week with two games, including a Lamar Hunt US Open Cup matchup against rival Houston on Wednesday before the team travels to Portland to take on the Timbers.
MLSsoccer.com left FCD in the second spot and gave George John some love:
How was George John not on the All-Star ballot? How was he not on the preliminary 35-man Gold Cup roster? Has everybody forgotten that there's soccer happening in Dallas?
ESPN FC once again kept FC Dallas at number three:
Dallas bided its time and prepared for its mammoth Western Conference clash against Portland. Manager Schellas Hyndman will be hoping that the gastroenteritis that sidelined Blas Perez while on international duty doesn't shut the forward down.
FC Dallas also stayed put in Soccer America’s Power Rankings.
Avi Creditor of SI.com kept Dallas in the top spot despite a weekend off:
FC Dallas had the week off, but the club will wait on the word regarding striker Blas Perez, who was ruled out of Panama's World Cup qualifier with the USA with gastroenteritis. Should he have to miss the weekend's crucial bout with Portland, that'd be a big blow for a side whose Western Conference lead continues to shrink.
FCD remained at number two according to Yahoo Sports:
This won't be an easy week for Dallas. They'll have to follow a Wednesday night USOC home game against Houston with a Saturday evening contest at Portland.

Blas Perez scored FC Dallas' only two goals against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, securing a crucial point on the road to keep Dallas atop the Western Conference standings. Perez's performance has earned him a lot of honors this week, including spots on the weekly Castrol Index Top 20 at number 17 and MLS' Top 3 Performers for Week 14. The striker also earned nominations for Goal of the Week and Latin American Player of the Week and was named to MLSsoccer.com's Team of the Week. Don't forget to vote for Blas this week!

FC Dallas managed to earn a point on the road in Colorado this weekend, a result that was good enough to keep them in the top three in just about every MLS power ranking this week. While some polls moved the Montreal Impact up to the top spot after their win this weekend, one still credited FCD with the spot and none of them moved them down more than one spot. FCD sits at number two or three in just about every list. Most importantly, Dallas still remains at the top of the Western Conference standings heading into a bye weekend.
MLSsoccer.com jumped Montreal over FCD, bumping Dallas to the number two spot in their rankings:
Dallas are never going to win many admirers for how they play, but they probably care more about winning points instead. And it's proved to be damn effective, especially since they have a pair of big-name players – Blas Pérez and David Ferreira – who live up to their billing every time they put on the uniform.
FC Dallas remained in the number three spot for another week according to ESPN FC’s rankings:
FCD secured an impressive road point at Colorado, coming back twice from a goal down thanks to Blas Perez's two goals. A bye next weekend should allow more of Dallas' injured players the chance to get back to full fitness.
Soccer America moved Montreal into the top spot, dropping Dallas down one spot to #2.
The winning streak was just enough for the Impact to edge past FC Dallas into the top spot in the power rankings.
Avi Creditor of SI.com left FC Dallas at #1 once again:
A wild sequence at Dick's Sporting Goods Park resulted in a well-taken brace by Blas Perez and allowed FC Dallas to twice come back from one-goal deficits to salvage a draw in its 2010 MLS Cup final rematch with the Colorado Rapids. FCD's pace has slowed considerably, with the club having just two wins in the last six games, but Schellas Hyndman's side continues to find a way to make the points add up. It remains atop the Western Conference standings.
Last but not least, Yahoo Sports moved FC Dallas up a spot to #2:
Still undefeated at home, Dallas did well to pick up a point at Colorado. They aren't running away with anything yet, but they remain the only team in the west earning two points per game.
FC Dallas forward Blas Perez only had two shots on goal against Colorado on Saturday night, but he certainly made them count.
The Panamanian sent both shots past Clint Irwin for his second two-goal game in an FC Dallas jersey earning FC Dallas a point away to the Rapids. .
Blas' second goal, a real top-shelf effort from 25 yards, has been nominated for MLS Goal of the Week, so get out there and vote early and often for Blas!
FC Dallas ended their three-match week unbeaten with a 2-2 draw in Colorado. Blas Perez scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season to twice pull FC Dallas from a goal down in the second half earning a positive point that FCD will take into their 10-day break. Here's all the highlights from tonight's match:
