The season is back! FCD kicks things off on Saturday night against San Jose and we've got you covered with FCDTV's Keys to the Match driven by Toyota

06 March 11:28 am

Yesterday, released a number of articles predicting which players would have the biggest 2015 and the staff showed FC Dallas a little love.

What better way to prepare for the regular season home-opener against the San Jose Earthquakes tomorrow, than by reading all of them.

Greg Lalas, Editor-In-Chief of, pegged FC Dallas’ Dan Kennedy to win the 2015 Goalkeeper of the Year Award.

Fabian Castillo (3) and Tesho Akindele (5) made the top five in the 2015 edition of 24 Under 24- a look at potential breakout players.

Last season the New England Revolution’s Lee Nguyen was one of the most captivating players in MLS. FC Dallas’ Mauro Diaz was pegged as the most likely to be the Lee Nguyen of 2015.

Matt Hedges received 25% of the staff’s votes for Defender of the Year and Diaz was picked by "Armchair Analyst" Matt Doyle as the favorite in the Landon Donovan MVP race.

After all the awards talk, the staff highlighted Diaz in a feature that supports his inclusion in the superlative conversations.

And last but certainly not least, there was a piece on Blas Perez’ soccer career- which spans 15 teams, seven countries and four continents. Not surprisingly, Perez’ four year stint with FC Dallas is the longest in his career.

Just a little bit of reading to pass the time between now and 7:30PM on Saturday night!

One of the coolest parts of last fall's double dose of MLS playoff games at Toyota Stadium was seeing the fans standing and waiving the "Red For Glory" mini-scarves handed out to nearly everyone in attendance.

They were so popular, that we're bringing them back in 2015 with a special twist.

At four games this season, the first 7,500 fans into Toyota Stadium will be receiving collectible mini-scarves with Saturday's home opener the first chance to get your hands on the first of the four-scarf set.

As you can see, the scarf we're handing out on Saturday, which is presented by AdvoCare, has our "Red for 90" tagline on there but if you look closer you can see a "D"...this is where having all four is awesome. When you have all four of the scarves, it will spell out DTID and we don't think we need to tell you what that means.

Remember, the scarves are only being handed out to the first 7,500 fans on Saturday so GET THERE EARLY! MLS Commissioner Don Garber will be scarfing the Lamar Hunt Statue at 7:00PM so there's really no excuse to not get in your seats early on Saturday night and get the first of four mini-scarves!

FC Dallas spent the first week of preseason on the road at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

What happened: Orlando City defeated FC Dallas 4-0

Where and when it happened: Champions Gate Sports Field Complex Feb. 4th

How it happened: In the first match of the pre-season, FC Dallas couldn’t slow down Orlando City’s offense and fell 4-0. It was the first match as a Lion for Ricardo Kakà and he tallied an assist and a goal on a penalty kick in his debut.

What happened: FC Dallas tied Jönköpings 1-1

Where and when it happened: IMG Academy Stadium on Feb. 7th

How it happened: FC Dallas’ Atiba Harris drew first blood with a goal in the last ten minutes of the first half. However, the Swedes tied the match at 1-1 minutes later. Neither side managed to score in the second half- and both teams left IMG Academy with a draw.

After the week at IMG Academy, FC Dallas traveled to Austin for the ATX Pro Challenge.

What happened: FC Dallas beat Columbus Crew SC 3-1 (ATX Pro Challenge)

Where and when it happened: Mike A. Meyers Stadium, Feb. 13th

How it happened: Fueled by two first-half goals by Ryan Hollingshead, FC Dallas blew past Columbus Crew SC in the ATX Pro Challenge.  Blaz Perez got the scoring started with a goal in the 29th minute. By the 44th minute, FC Dallas had a 3-0 lead and Columbus didn’t get on the board until the 65th minute.

What happened: FC Dallas fell to D.C. United 1-0  (ATX Pro Challenge)

Where and when it happened: Mike A. Meyers Stadium Feb. 15th

How it happened: The final round of the ATX Pro Challenge was decided by a 54thminute goal by D.C. United’s Chris Rolfe.  FC Dallas had several opportunities to take a 1-0 lead but couldn’t get any shots to go in. Rolfe’s goal came off a Fabian Espindola free kick- Espindola’s kick was headed away by David Texeira, but Rolfe was there to collect the ball and fire it into the net for the game-winner.

FCD hosted their only home preseason match against DC United the next weekend.

What happened: FC Dallas beat D.C. United 3-1

Where and when it happened: Toyota Stadium Feb. 20th

How it happened: After falling to D.C. United just five days earlier, FC Dallas exacted its revenge in a 3-1 win at home. Ryan Hollingshead scored his third goal of the pre-season. Fabian Castilllo gave FC Dallas a 2-1 lead in the 79th minute by beating DC United keeper Andrew Dykstra to a loose ball and tapping it in for the easy score. Tesho Akindele closed out the scoring with a penalty kick in the 88th minute. The reigning MLS Rookie of the Year fired a shot over the right shoulder of Dykstra to put FC Dallas up 3-1.

What happened: FC Dallas fell to San Antonio 2-1 (deeproot Funds Cup)

Where and when it happened: Toyota Field Feb. 28th

How it happened: In its final preseason match, FC Dallas fell to the San Antonio Scorpions 2-1. Despite a lot of action in the first half, the first goal didn’t come until the 70th minute when Chrstian Palomeque put the Scorpions up 1-0. FC Dallas couldn’t find the back of the net until the 89 minute- Michel delivered a free kick from the left sideline to FC Dallas Academy’s Santiago Augdelo who finished off the play and cut the Scorpions lead in half. That was as close as FC Dallas got and the defending North American Soccer League Champion Scorpions held on for the 2-1 victory.

The 2015 season is just days away and it's time to launch the first of our uber-popular Scarf of the Month series for 2015!

Both Major League Soccer and FC Dallas are no longer teenagers as we enter the 20th season and our Scarf of the Month in March pays homage to that exciting fact.

This adidas-produced scarf shows both where we've been and where we're going.

TICKETS - FC Dallas vs. San Jose pres. by AdvoCare - Saturday, March 7

On one side is the FC Dallas name and logo which we have proudly called our own for the last ten years as well as the brand new MLS crest and our exclusive 20-year patch celebrating two decades of MLS in Dallas.

On the other side is a nod to the past with the Dallas Burn name and logo as well as the former MLS logo. In nine years as the Dallas Burn, we launched MLS in North Texas, winning the 1997 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as well as making the playoffs in seven out of nine seasons with a squad led by our current head coach Oscar Pareja as well as club legend Bobby Rhine.

Show your pride for the last two decades of MLS soccer in DFW with our March Scarf of the Month.

This very limited edition scarf is $25 and ONLY available at the FC Dallas Team Shop at Toyota Stadium, but you can grab yours for one night only at Cocktails & Cleats on Thursday, March 5

We've finally reached the final preseason game of 2015 as we sit just a week away from the huge season opener at Toyota Stadium against San Jose on March 7th!

There's still one more important matter, however, as FC Dallas looks to take down the reigning NASL Champions in the second-straight year the teams meet up in the final preseason match.

READ: Snowccer Friday hits Toyota Stadium

FC Dallas is 2-2-1 in five preseason matches with last Friday's 3-1 win over DC United still fresh in everyone's mind. Here are three things to watch for on Saturday night and be sure to head to tomorrow night at 7:00PM to catch all the action from San Antonio.

Barrios' first game

One of the really interesting aspects to Saturday's friendly will be a first chance to see new signing Michael Barrios in his first action with FCD. The speedy winger joined the team for his first practices this week and Oscar Pareja has said he expects him to play a part in Saturday's game.

The duo of Michael Barrios and Fabian Castillo would surely be the fastest pair of wingers in the league and we could see that speed unleashed for the first time on Saturday night.

Loyd back in the mix

Zach Loyd and Matt Hedges provided one of the best center back combinations in the league through the second half of the 2014 season, but the pair hasn't had a lot of time to work together in the 2015 preseason as Loyd has had to sit much of it out with a minor injury. Zach was back in training this week and could end up playing a part in Saturday's game. It's certainly something to watch as significant minutes for Loyd would certainly suggest he's 100% to go for next Saturday's season opener.

The battle for Texas

Last season, FC Dallas locked down the hypothetical Texas championship belt defeating the Houston Dynamo in MLS and LHUSOC play while drawing San Antonio in preseason and also defeating them in LHUSOC play. While Dallas didn't get a chance to play Austin Aztex in the preseason tournament, Saturday's game is a chance to win yet another game against Texan opposition. Which is always important. #KingsOfTexas
