Recently, FC Dallas welcomed a delegation of teams from their new affiliate in Monterrey, Mexico.
The trip and the new affiliation have been spearheaded by FC Dallas Under-14 Development Academy Head Coach Francisco Molina, a Monterrey-native.
“I think they’re going to represent our brand very well in Monterrey,” said Molina. “[Liga MX clubs] Monterrey and Tigres had both approached them and that’s not what they want. They want to be able to take advantage of our tournaments and try to promote the Bobby Rhine Fall Invitational to make it international.”
After nearly a two-year process, the club formerly known as Virgin Soccer officially became an FC Dallas affiliate recently. Led by club directors Gabriel Moreno, Patricio Guerra & Miguel Mendoza, the club has six teams from U-15 to U-9 level and over Labor Day weekend brought teams to scrimmage the FCD U-16, U-15 and U-14 sides.
“It was competitive and more than I thought because that older age group that they had was only four months old,” said Molina. “All the kids we’re excited to be here and wanted to prove to us that they could play. I knew they were going to be organized, but the quality of the players they brought was really very exciting for me.”
Molina added that one player will be invited to Frisco to join the FCD ‘98’s and that he’s extremely excited about how the affiliation will develop over time. Coaching clinics with FC Dallas Academy coaches traveling down to Monterrey is planned for the future and also in the plans is using the FC Dallas ECNL teams to help start a girls team.
“With the guys who are running FC Dallas in Monterrey, I think it’s going to be very successful,” said Molina. “Monterrey and Tigres both have academies here in Dallas and we’re definitely more organized in Monterrey than they are here.”

It was back to action for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers last weekend as they extended their unbeaten streak to four games with a 0-0 shutout against San Antonio Scorpions.
For FCD's on-loan players it was a solid weekend as goalkeeper Richard Sanchez extended his out shutout streak to 315 minutes with a third-straight shutout in the scoreless draw.
In addition to Sanchez's shutout, forward Bradlee Baladez returned from a minor calf strain to play 14 minutes.
FTL returns to the field on Saturday in Canada where they'll face FC Edmonton.

In Sweden, Bobby Warshaw and Angelholms FF had the weekend off while Moises Hernandez was an unused substitute in Deportivo Saprissa's 0-0 draw with Puntarenas.
WATCH: Watson scores vs Whitecaps
Je-Vaughn Watson said after Saturday's game that his eyes are on nothing but qualifying for the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs and his contributions were huge for FC Dallas on Saturday in the 3-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
According to the OPTA Chalkboard, Watson dominated the left side on Saturday completing 26 of 31 passes as well as his wonder-strike past Whitecaps goalkeeper David Ousted early in the first half.
For Watson's 84-minute contributions, he earned MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week honors, his first appearance this season.
MF: Je-Vaughn Watson (FC Dallas) – The outstanding two-way display in Dallas' 3-1 win over Vancouver might have been enough to secure his place here, but he made sure of it with a fine long-range strike to bring his team level.

While FCD was off last weekend, it was another successful stretch for our loan players who saw times with their respective teams.
HIGHLIGHTS: Strikers 1, Railhawks 0
In Fort Lauderdale, goalkeeper Richard Sanchez had his second shutout in a row as the Strikers rolled to their third straight win dealing the first-place Carolina Railhawks their first loss of the season in a 1-0 result. Sanchez now has a 225 minute scoreless streak dating back to their 2-1 win over San Antonio on August 17. Forward Bradlee Baladez did not feature in Saturday's win over Carolina as he nurses a calf strain, but he is not expected to miss any more time.
The Strikers host San Antonio on Saturday with first place in their sights.
WATCH: Warshaw scores in Sweden
Over in Sweden, midfielder Bobby Warshaw has broken into the Angelholms starting XI and opened his account for the Swedish side in a 2-2 draw vs GIF Sundsvall on August 28. The Pennsylvania-native did well to take down a deep cross and snuck a shot between the legs of the opposing keeper to score his first goal in Sweden. Warshaw built on that performance playing 65 minutes in a 4-2 win over Varberg.
With eight games left in their season, Angelholms sit comfortably in seventh place, thirteen points behind GIF Sundsvall for the third playoff promotion spot in the Swedish Superettan but seven points above the relegation playoff zone.
In Costa Rica, Moises Hernandez was an unused substitute for Deportivo Saprissa in their 4-1 thrashing of lowly Uruguay. After five games, Saprissa sits in first place with 13 points, five points ahead of second-placed Puntarenas.
It's been a good month for 18-year-old Homegrown defender Kellyn Acosta.
The Plano-native made his first MLS start against Los Angeles and has started the last three games in a row at right back for FCD despite turning 18 just last month. He took some time on Friday morning after training to chat with the fans on FCD's Facebook page ahead of tomorrow's big game against San Jose.
Click here to read the full transcript from Kellyn's chat. The questions range from where he would've gone to college to his keys for success to whether he is the son of Zeus. It's a good read.
