FC Dallas is in Bradenton, Florida this week for the second phase of preseason and we have the first pictures from the IMG Academy. FC Dallas will take on USF tomorrow afternoon in Bradenton.
FC Dallas added another piece to their attack on Friday announcing the loan acquisition of Andres "Manga" Escobar from Dynamo Kiev. The 22-year-old Colombian is close friends with Fabian Castillo and looks to be another exciting addition to an FCD attack that has added a number of young players this offseason.
Here's the always-anticipated YouTube highlight package for our newest young star :
FC Dallas wrapped up their preseason slate in the UAE with another game against Sweden's BK Hacken on Monday in Dubai. This game was not streamed, but BK Hacken has provided highlights shown above. Fabian Castillo opened the scoring for FCD early in the first half, but some lax defending allowed BK Hacken with three goals to win the rematch of Friday's 3-0 FC Dallas win.
FC Dallas first half lineup:
Seitz(Sanchez 30), Warshaw, Walker, Hernandez, Benitez, Jacobson, Moffat, Castillo, Diaz, Watson, Perez
FC Dallas second half lineup:
Sanchez(Zobeck 60), Warshaw, Walker, Hernandez, Michel, Hollingshead, Watson, Garcia, Span, Diaz(Top), Akindele(Baladez)
FC Dallas played their first official friendly of the 2014 preseason on Friday morning, defeating Swedish Allsvenskan side BK Hacken 3-0 in Abu Dhabi.
FCD got the scoring going early in the match as Fabian Castillo turned on the afterburners to glide past the Hacken defense before slotting home far post to give Dallas a 1-0 lead.
After a big save from Richard Sanchez, FCD doubled the lead through Blas Perez. A cross was sent in to the Panamanian with his defender having fallen down. Blas easily curled one in to the far post to give FC Dallas the 2-0 lead they would hold at the halftime interval.
The second half saw both sides make wholesale changes and FCD capped a fantastic opening match with a late goal as Danny Garcia's wonderful through ball found Ryan Hollingshead making a streaking run into the box. The California-native rounded the keeper and finished from close range to round out the scoring.
"It was a great exercise against a good team. It was very competitive and gave us different challenges," said head coach Oscar Pareja. "At this stage of the preseason, it has a great value to come and get 90 minutes for a team like ours that is in preseason mode. I thought we took the best out of the game and that makes me happy."
FC Dallas is set to play BK Hacken again on Monday in another preseason match. Follow @FCDallas on Twitter for news on whether that one will be streamed or not.
Starting XI: Sanchez, Michel, Hernandez, Hedges, Acosta, Moffat, Jacobson(C), Diaz, Watson, Castillo, Perez
Second-half Subs: Seitz, Walker, Warshaw, Ulloa, Luccin, Hollingshead, Span, Akindele, Garcia
After a week and a half of fitness drills, FCD finally hit the field for a game on Tuesday and it seems as if the guys were raring to go. While a tenatively scheduled game against their host club fell through, FCD was still able to play an intrasquad scrimmage at the nearly 50,000-seat Zayed Sports City Stadium with the blue team winning 3-2.
According to our trusty reporter on the ground in Abu Dhabi, the red squad took the lead as Blas Perez scored a PK before Peter Luccin tied things up with a long range shot. Cobi Span gave the blue team the lead after rounding the 'keeper on a through ball from Danny Garcia before Kellyn Acosta tied the game with what was described as an "unbelievable" goal from 25-30 yards out into the upper 90.
The game-winner came from new signing Ryan Hollingshead, who volleyed home a cross from Danny Garcia to finish the scoring.
While we have not confirmed this report, Swedish club BK Häcken says there will be friendlies against FC Dallas both on Friday, February 7 and Monday, February 10.

Things are going to be pretty slow at FCDallas.com over the next couple weeks as World Cup Way shuts down for the holidays before stepping full throttle on the gas as we barrel towards the 2014 season in the new years. With that in mind, I thought it would be fun to take a final look back at 2013 over the next couple of weeks and relive some of the great content churned out by the FCD digital team over the last year(or maybe it's just a cheap ploy to up our page view numbers in the final days of the year).
Either way, over the next couple weeks we'll take a stroll down memory lane.
2013 FCDallas.com Year in Review: Preseason
The country came to a stop in late December 2012 as the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting shocked us all. In an effort to help restore some normalcy to the community, the soccer world organized "Soccer Night in Newtown" and two FC Dallas players took part in the event. In addition, midfielder Bobby Warshaw wrote a fantastic blog about why he participated in the event.
In mid-January, FC Dallas made one of the biggest signings of the year, bringing in Peruvian national team goalkeeper Raul Fernandez to man the nets. The 27-year-old 'keeper came highly recommended from a former FCD fan favorite.
“[Sala] recommended this player and for the last two months we’ve been in touch,” Clavijo said. “We sent our goalkeeper coach out there to see him, talk to him and watch him train and everything checked positive."
On January 17, FCD selected Walker Zimmerman with their first round draft pick and Scott Brown caught up for him with a Q&A on draft day.
"I just want to get there and work hard and learn from my veteran teammates. I’m just going to try and make Dallas home and do my best to get on the field and to play well and do all I can."
2013 was a banner year for goalkeeper Chris Seitz and it all started with a solid preseason that earned praise from the coaching staff.
“This is probably the most fit I’ve seen him come in for preseason.”
The end of January was dominated by an on-again off-again transfer saga involving star winger Brek Shea. On January 29th, it looked like the deal had fallen through and Shea would be staying with FCD.
“I talked to Brek – we did everything we possibly could, it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen,”
Then, just hours before the international transfer window closed on January 31, the deal was pushed through and Shea headed to EPL side Stoke City FC.
“This is one of those bittersweet situations,” FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman said. “We are very excited for Brek to take this important step in his career, but we’re also going to miss him here. This will be a good, fresh challenge for Brek, and we believe he is well-prepared and ready to make an impact for Stoke.”
FCD made one of the biggest splashes of the preseason in early February making a sensational double-signing of forwards Kenny Cooper and Eric Hassli.
"Kenny has long been a fan favorite here and we couldn’t be happier about welcoming him home to Dallas. Eric is an exciting player who we know our fans will enjoy watching."
From Mexico, it was on to the Rose City where FCD played three games in the Portland Preseason Tournament including a 1-0 win over the hosts through a Blas Perez goal.
