Club America & Cruz Azul to meet in Liga MX championship

By Daniel Robertson

Last week, we announced an exciting international match coming to FC Dallas Stadium on Sunday, June 30 as Mexico City rivals Club America and Cruz Azul will face off in a 2013 Liga MX Apertura pre-season friendly.

The "Clasico Joven" rivalry coming to Frisco was already sure to be friendly in name only, but the excitement of the match has been taken up a notch as the two sides came out victorious in their liguilla semifinals over the weekend, setting up a showdown in the 2013 Liga MX Clausura Final.

Christian Benitez scored three times in two semifinal matches against Monterrey sealing a 4-3 aggregate win over Los Rayados while Cruz Azul strolled to a 5-1 aggregate win over Santos Laguna.

Cruz Azul and Club America will contest their two-leg championship on Thursday and Sunday as La Maquina look for their tenth league championship and their first since 1997. For Las Aguilas of Club America, a win in this week's championship would represent their 11th overall and first since 2005.

You certainly don't want to miss the match coming to Frisco this summer, the first meeting between the two sides since this week's matches, a game that's sure to sell out.
