FC Dallas

The mysterious voters behind the MLS Power Rankings dropped FC Dallas three spots this week to No. 13 in the Week 25 rankings after a 2-0 loss on the road to the LA Galaxy. Here's what the voters had to say:

Brutal loss to LA may very well have put the postseason out of reach. FCD have six games left and probably need to win at least four of them to have a realistic hope at making the playoffs. Won't be easy, especially with red-hot Seattle coming to town this weekend. But at least they have all their pieces back and healthy for the first time ever.

Thanks to the 100-plus who attended our August Party at the Pubs watch party presented by Budweiser. Londoner Addison was a great location to watch FCD take on the LA Galaxy. Here are some photos from Sunday's event.

FRISCO – This week’s preparations by FC Dallas for its key match at the LA Galaxy (6 p.m. Sunday on NBC Sports Network) included a first for head coach Schellas Hyndman.

Hyndman and his staff usually analyze the most recent two or three matches of teams they are about to play. But the anemic showing of FC Dallas in a 0-1 loss on July 28 at home against the Galaxy meant that match video was broken down during the week.

It’s an uncommon move according to the coach, who said it’s “the first time since I’ve been here” the staff reached back for a specific match to scout rather than only look at a team’s most recent form.

“They will come back out and pressure us again,” Hyndman said. “Whether Donovan is on the field or Beckham is on the field, I think the whole mentality is ‘Look, this is a team who didn’t handle our pressure well, let’s go out and pressure them again’,” Hyndman said.

In addition to the pressure, Hyndman said that July match was the first time in 2012 he felt FC Dallas was outworked.

“For us it was a disappointing result, but at the same time it was an unusual, uncharacteristic effort on our part,” Hyndman said.

FRISCO – The LA Galaxy begin CONCACAF Champions League play tonight and there will be more than a few interested observers in Dallas.

“Of course I’ll be watching,” said head coach Schellas Hyndman. “I’ve encouraged all our players to watch.”

LA faces Isidro Metapan from El Salvador tonight at the Home Depot Center in opening round CCL play (9 p.m. CT on Fox Soccer). On Sunday, FC Dallas will be in California for a crucial match against the Galaxy for FC Dallas’ playoff hopes (6 p.m. CT on NBC Sports Network).

But Hyndman doesn’t think there will be any type of advantage for FCD with the quick turnaround for LA.

“When CCL really takes effect is after they’ve been traveling for three or four games, adding on MLS games, traveling from one country to another country and then turning around and playing a game. I think then you’ll start to see the wear and tear,” Hyndman said.

FC Dallas isn't the first, nor will it be the last, soccer team to wear a striped or hooped jersey. But we do take notice when new kits roll out with the horizontal stripes.

Back in April, we weren't the only ones to notice the similarities between the new U.S. Men's National Team jerseys and FCD's.

SMU caught our attention on Wednesday when they unveiled their new red and blue hooped jerseys on Facebook. Red & blue are, of course, FCD's colors and SMU's as well.

So which look do you like the best? FCD? USMNT? SMU?

FC Dallas' surge is getting noticed in the soccer world this week and David Ferreira is front and center in media coverage. The MLS Player of the Week spoke with ESPN's Jeff Carlisle and opened up about the difficulty of his lengthy rehab and his concerns about returning to the pitch. The entire piece is worth a read, but here's an excerpt:

"Definitely there were moments I thought that [I wouldn't return]," Ferreira said. "I was committed during all my therapy sessions, but then I injured myself again and nothing resulted quickly. The support of my family was fundamental and everyone as well as the group encouraged me and strengthened to keep looking forward. Thank God things are going well, and let's hope going forward there are no injuries and I can enjoy many more years of soccer."

Dale Hansen showed off quite the souvenir on Tuesday night's 6 p.m. newscast on Ch. 8. He recently attended a Rod Stewart concert at WinStar World Casino and a viewer taped him catching a soccer ball kicked into the crowd by the famous singer. That signed ball - which he showed on air - is an FC Dallas soccer ball autographed by Stewart. Watch the video from the newscast:

The unknown voters behind the MLS Power Rankings vaulted FC Dallas up three spots this week to No. 10 in the Week 24 rankings after two big road wins. FCD won at Vancouver 2-0 on Wednesday and defeated RSL 2-1 Saturday night on a stoppage time winner from David Ferreira. Here's what the voters had to say:

It’s amazing what having your best player fit and healthy can do. David Ferreira may very well be the most important player in the league, and not just because he’s amazing in his own right, but because of how much better he makes guys like Brek Shea and Fabián Castillo.
