FRISCO -- Kevin Hartman isn’t a stranger to playoff races.
The 16-year-veteran said he’s been a part of some battles and the key is not letting pressure get the best of a team.
“There’s a lot of pressure this time of year. It’s not one team, it’s every team,” Hartman said. “You look at the emotion the players speak with before the games, after the games, you see how much is riding on it.”
Yes, FC Dallas needs to keep winning to get the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. But the pressure, according to some soccer pundits, is seemingly on the team FCD is chasing – Vancouver Whitecaps FC, who haven’t won a match since August 11.
FC Dallas is just two points behind Vancouver with four matches remaining for both clubs.
Coach Schellas Hyndman says FCD is in a good place mentally right now.
“You can see the team is in a unified group right now,” Hyndman said.
That’s key, according to Hartman, who says he hopes he can provide some type of veteran leadership to some of the younger players during this stretch run.
“You hopefully relay that it’s important, to take it serious because you never know how many of these you’re going to get,” Hartman said. “I also think that you don’t want to put any undue burden on them.”
The FC Dallas Reserves return to the pitch tonight against the Sporting Kansas City Reserves at 7:30 p.m. FC Dallas fans are invited to watch the match at Field No. 4 at the Complex at FC Dallas Stadium.

FCD is currently 4-3-1 (13 pts) in Reserve League play, placing them in third place in the the Central/Mountain Division.
Last week we told you about paintings done by artist Brian Broadway of Blas Perez' late father and Bobby Rhine. This past weekend, the Rhine painting was installed in it's permanent home. Rhine's wife, Bevan Brooks Rhine, provides the update:
It was an honor to present this painting of Bobby to Coach Reid and the UCONN soccer department this past weekend. The really cool part is that they had Bobby's game jersey from that very photo and it's going to be hung next to the painting in the soccer offices. Very cool!!
Tuesday is the big day for soccer fans and gamers everywhere - the release of FIFA 13. This year's release comes with something extra for FC Dallas fans: Brek Shea featured on an official downloadable FIFA 13 cover. Here's what the cover looks like, which was created from a Matthew Visinsky photograph:
Thanks to a late goal from the Rapids' Jamie Smith, Colorado tied Vancouver 2-2 on Sunday night at BC Place. The match on Sunday was Vancouver's game-in-hand on FC Dallas and Vancouver could have built a two-match cushion in the standings. But after tonight, both FCD and Vancouver have four matches remaining with the Whitecaps just two points ahead of FCD in the standings for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Here's where things stand after all of the matches from the weekend:
Here is the remaining schedule for both Vancouver and FC Dallas:
Vancouver: vs Seattle, vs Chivas USA, vs Portland, at Real Salt Lake
FC Dallas: at San Jose, at Chivas USA, at Seattle, vs Chivas USA
Julian de Guzman's last minute heroics against Vancouver have made him the talk of the soccer world this week. ESPN's Jeffrey Carlisle chatted with de Guzman about his revival in Dallas, his time in Toronto and that magical goal that has FC Dallas in the playoff hunt. The entire story is worth your time, but here's an excerpt:
While Toronto limps to another last place finish in the Eastern Conference, de Guzman's arrival has helped revive Dallas' campaign, and his contributions go well beyond his stoppage-time winner last weekend against Vancouver. Overall, de Guzman's play has been sharp, and this is borne out by statistics provided by OPTA. de Guzman's pass completion percentage has been 83.4 percent since joining FCD, compared to just 70.5 percent while with Toronto.
How to explain such a difference then? Is it a case of being surrounded by better players? Is it a matter of style? Or is de Guzman simply in a better place mentally now that his Toronto nightmare is over? It's likely a combination of all three. The arrival of de Guzman in Dallas coincided roughly with the return of several injured players, including 2010 MVP David Ferreira. Just as important, de Guzman feels FCD's playing style suits him better.
Are you still thinking about that left-footed golazo from Julian de Guzman from FCD's 1-0 win over Vancouver?
